There are so many ways to accessorize an outfit. By simply changing the accessories, you can change your entire look. Which is why I was excited for our Match Made in Seven theme this month: Accessories Make the Look.
Welcome to the third monthly edition of Match made in Seven! We are an international group of fashion bloggers who meet once a month. One of us chooses a theme in turn, and that can be anything. A book, music, a color, a movie. Then we each style an outfit based on that theme. The theme for this month is Accessories Make the Look. This month’s fashion theme was chosen by Debbie of Debbie Styles Life.
So, what exactly, do accessories include? Anything you add to an outfit in addition to the base outfit. The base outfit is generally one or two pieces. Your base outfit can be solid, have patterns, or can be color blocked with two or more solid colors. It all depends on how much you want to take your base outfit to a more distinctive or personal level.
How do you accessorize an outfit? Here are 5 easy ways to accessorize any outfit:
- Add a layer. A jacket, scarf, or shawl.
- Add your style of jewelry. It can be a statement or understated piece, according to your personal style.
- Add a belt in a contrasting or coordinating color or style.
- Change up your handbag, or add a hat.
- Change out your shoes. Sneakers can instantly create a casual feel, while heels create a dressier look.
For today’s post, I am showing how you can easily change the look of a basic denim maxi dress by varying your accessories.
5 Easy Ways to Accessorize An Outfit
In this example, the base piece is a one-piece denim dress. Pretty cute all by itself. But with some added accessories, this basic dress is capable of so much more!
Here is the dress with neutral sandals and bag:
Not a bad look at all. But now let’s see what happens with a few changes…
Add a Layer
You can see that just by adding a scarf or a jacket, it changes the look dramatically. Pink is a hot color this spring, and you can be trendy just by adding a pink accessory. Even a pair of pink sunglasses or sunnies as our UK friends like to call them would change this look!
Add Jewelry and a Contrasting Belt
Silver looks amazing with denim, don’t you agree? For this version, it was easy to accessorize this outfit with silver in the statement earrings, the necklace, the belt and even in the shoes!
What do you think of these shoes as accessories, by the way? They came in a Trunk Club and I loved them once I put them on. The acrylic material and the silver in the heel of the wedges is so fun! I can’t find them anywhere, however, but take a look at this chunky heeled version that ranks very high on Amazon! Also, take a look at these acrylic heel slides and block heels with acrylic–both from Target! Cute and inexpensive–so try them just for fun.
Add a Handbag and Hat
Any time we add a straw hat and woven handbag visions of warm weather and tropical vacations are evoked. These accessories instantly create a whole new look and feel! Ready for the beach, anyone?
Add a Pair of Interesting Shoes
I love the current trend towards almost anything goes in the shoe department. Though I’m not overly fond of dressy dresses with sneakers. But hey, anything goes! If you like it and it makes you feel good, flaunt it! By adding fun animal print sneakers and a white belt, you create a whole new casual outfit.
