Welcome to my blog! I am so excited that you are here!
For my very first blog, I will be sharing some fashion finds from my trip to Northern Michigan in early September. I know it is Fall and the weather is turning chilly, but it will soon be time to plan for next year’s vacation, and it’s never to early to think about that!! I highly recommend you consider a trip to Northern Michigan if you are planning a trip within the U.S in the near future. It is a beautiful area and has become quite the destination for travelers from all over the county. In this post, I will be sharing some great shops and pieces I discovered and how I combined them into outfits that worked perfectly for my trip.
Fashion Finds in Northern Michigan
First of all, an AMAZING and unique shop is a Northern Michigan concern called Haystacks.
It started with one gal in Leland and has grown to several shops throughout the area. Their colorful skirts are easy care, wrinkle free and perfect for travel. Here is a classic outfit :
The skirt I am wearing is called a “switchstack” which is reversible with two different patterns–great for travel! The top is made of a stretchy fabric that comes in a multitude of colors. There are 3/4 sleeve versions as well for cooler weather or evenings. This dark grey is one of my favorites!! Again, just throw it in your suitcase and go! These skirts can be worn with leggings or tights and boots which is also a great look.
Below is another way to “switch up” your outfit: with an open-knit poncho! These were a great find, again at Haystacks, and come in at least ten colors! A great way to make a few items interchangeable on your next trip. How easy is that to throw in your suitcase?
The next day was a bit cooler, which is typical in September in Northern Michigan. Here I am styling the poncho with my favorite jeans, from Talbot’s. I wear a petite size and the fit is always spot-on!

Here is a longer version of a Haystacks skirt, with a Michael Stars sparkly gold top. Again, add some tights and boots with a leather jacket and you are cool-weather ready!
Here is another great top from Haystacks in linen. Love these thinner scarves, too!

Leland River outfit
I was able to mix and match these pieces in a number of ways and will use them for my next travel adventure–coming up soon!

Thanks, Kathy! You’re so sweet to comment! Can you tell I wasn’t really ready to retire? I had spine surgery from that silly accident and retired at the end of July. I’ve started a consulting business for education, and have some proposals in the works, so decided to try my hand at this, too. WAY more challenging than I thought! Haha! But fun, too! Hope all is well with you and Phil and family. -Dar
