While every one of us has items that are quintessentially our own “essentials,” my guess is that there is a great deal of crossover between us. So, when it was my turn to choose our theme this month for our Match Made in Seven collaboration, I thought it would be fun to see what each of us come up with. This month’s theme is 7 fashion essentials every woman should own.
Match Made in Seven is an international group of fashion bloggers who meet once a month. One of us chooses a theme in turn, and that can be anything. A book, music, a color, a movie. And then we style an outfit based on that theme. It’s fun to collaborate with other fashion bloggers! Don’t forget to visit my blogger friends and see how they interpreted the theme of this month!
And now, here are MY fashion essentials…
7 Fashion Essentials Every Woman Should Own
#1 – The White Tee
The first essential is a white tee. Everyone has one, right? It’s one of those pieces that we wear over and over and when it’s all used up, we buy another to replace it. Or maybe we even have several. Like maybe 7? Lol! I have at least that many: vee-neck, crew neck, sleeveless, short sleeve, elbow-length, boatneck, long sleeve, with a pocket, and on. In the end, my fallback is a short-sleeve, crewneck tee. What is your favorite style of white tee?
This white tee is my current favorite. It’s super soft and slightly loose-fitting yet perfect under jackets.
#2 – A Black Blazer
The next essential is a black blazer. It could also be a navy blazer. But either way, A black blazer is a must-have you can wear for a professional look, for a bit of warmth with a dress or skirt, or with your favorite jeans. And with the white tee, you’re wearing at least two essentials!
#3 – Jeans
Speaking of jeans, I can’t imagine there is anyone who doesn’t own at least one pair. If you’re like me, you own several. Even when I wore suits and dresses during the workweek, I had a full collection of jeans. My current favorite is the bootcut jeans I’m styling here. (Above: Itty Bitty Bootcut Jeans. Below: Button-front Bootcut Jeans.) I like the way they balance my figure and add a bit of length, which I need.
#4 – White Jeans
In addition to a nice pair of dark indigo-colored jeans, white jeans are another fashion essential. White jeans can be so easily dressed up or down. They work in all seasons of the year and go with everything in your closet. The trick to white jeans is finding the right pair for you. The fabric needs to be just the right weight so they aren’t see-through and the fit has to be just right to be complimentary for your figure. My latest find is this pair of Vintage Jeans. They have a higher waist with tapered legs, so they are fitted but not super tight. While the hems are left raw, they still look neat and finished. Watch for them in a future post!
#5 – The Denim Jacket
It would be remiss of me not to throw in a denim jacket, right? This is another piece that virtually every woman owns. I have them in indigo, white, cream, pink, and red. This collarless denim jacket version is a nice addition to my wardrobe and offers a slightly longer length.
#6 – The LBD
Speaking of a little black dress, this is an absolute for your closet! My guess is that many of you have more than one, as who can go wrong with an LBD? This is one I styled in an earlier post that I love. A basic dress like this is perfect for almost any occasion and is easily packed for your next trip. You can switch it up from heels to sandals. I take this one everywhere!
#7 – White Sneakers
Another no-brainer is a pair of white leather sneakers. Even before they became super popular, I bought a new pair of white Keds almost every year. Can you relate? Today you see them on runways styled with dresses and skirts of all kinds. It’s so great to see something we all love and wear anyway become a trend, isn’t it?
If I had a longer list, I would add a white silk blouse, a pencil skirt, and nude heels. My list of 7 tends towards casual pieces that fit my current lifestyle best.
What are your 7 fashion essentials?
I’m super curious to see what my blogging friends came up with, aren’t you? Let’s see where we overlap and what other ideas they came up with!
