In looking for some fall dress ideas, I remembered that a Trunk Club selection would soon be forthcoming, so I asked my stylist for a nice variety. I have to say, she delivered with 8 fall dress ideas!
As you know, Trunk Club is a styling service from Nordstrom, who has extensive variety in both style and price. Shortly after my semi-retirement, I signed up for the service to assist me in developing a less conservative style but still dressing with good taste.
In each of the Trunks I’ve received for the past year or so, I have found at least one new and different item. The best part is having someone else select pieces that I wouldn’t normally choose. Case in point: a pink snakeskin blouse that I shared in the post Go Wild in a Pink Snake Print Shirt. Not liking the look at all while still in the package, I was very surprised to discover that I absolutely loved it once I put it on!
In today’s post, then, I’m asking for YOUR opinion. The dresses received range from casual to dressy and can be worn for almost any occasion that might come up this fall. Unfortunately, I like most of them! But I certainly don’t need them all. Sad. I have several occasions coming up in the next few months so any one of them is helpful to have at the ready in my closet.
Take a look here. Of all these fall dress ideas, which would you choose for me? Which might you choose for YOU?
Fall Dresses Ideas from Casual to Dressy
The dresses I’ve shared range in price from $59 to $168. So there’s a price point for everyone!
The Casual Midi Tank Dress
A black tank dress is a perfect go-to for so many occasions and can be dressed up or down. It also serves as a transitional dress, moving from early to late fall. This midi dress is made from soft loose-knit terry with side slits.
Do I really need another black dress? Lol! Can one ever have too many LBDs?

Leaf Print Sheath Dress
A pretty fall leaf pattern elevates this simple sheath style. It is party lined and complete with side pockets. Love that! You just pull it on over your head and go! Perfect to wear from work and after!
Floral Faux-Wrap Dress
This floral dress is from Eliza J, a brand that makes beautiful dresses for all occasions. The fabric is a pebbled crepe in this gorgeous floral on a dark green background. It’s an easy fit, fully lined number you pull on over your head.
You’ll notice that while I wore black chunky heels with all the other dresses, I had to go with a neutral kitten heel for this dress. It just didn’t work with the black shoes!
Tie-Sleeve A-Line Dress
Cropped sleeves gathered with knotted ties add a feminine note to this soft crepe dress. This would be cute for an after-work party, a dinner date, or a holiday party. It comes in both this magenta shade and basic black.
Plaid Sleeveless Sweater Dress
The black and red houndstooth plaid adds a little vintage style to this sleeveless sweater dress. The cotton and nylon fabric are very soft and comfy. It comes in regular and petite sizes. Wouldn’t it look great with tights and booties and a black cardigan this fall? Or a red or black blazer for work.
Long-Sleeve Wrap Midi Dress
Get ready for fall in a true wrap style in a midi length with long sleeves and button cuffs. While it’s a bit of trouble to fit and adjust, the fit is flattering and form-fitting once you get it on and set. And the color is beautiful for fall and the holidays ahead!
You may recall a similar dress I styled in the post, Red Wrap Dress for Valentine’s Day.
Polka Dot A-Line Dress
For a warm fall day, this dress would be great. The simple shift silhouette comes in solid black and 6 additional patterns. Gotta love polka-dot, right? And rust is a big color for fall.

Whew! That was a lot to try on! My professional photographer (yes, my husband, of course) was becoming just a tad bit impatient. Can you relate? Lol! Have you ever taken your husband on a shopping trip? I tried in the early years of our marriage. It quickly became apparent that that was NOT a good idea!
Thanks for participating in my Try-On Session today. Did this session give you any ideas for a new fall dress? Be sure to drop a note in the Comments below to let me know which fall dress you like best for me, and which you would choose for yourself.
Happy shopping!
Oh wow, so many great dresses! The black, the plaid, and the polka dot are my favorites! But they all look fabulous on you!

Hey, great minds think alike!! I ended up with the black midi and the plaid sweater dress cause both are so easy to style through the seasons. I did like the polka dot, too, but had to narrow my choices–and my spending!! Haha!

A fun post Darlene, I love these “try it on with me” posts. My favourite is the polka dot dress. I like the black dress too, as you say, you can never have too many LBDs! Thanks fr linking up at #WowOnWednesday.
Thanks very much, Gail! I ended up with the black maxi and the sweater dress, so pretty basic. I did like the polka dot but it’s a very lightweight material, so seemed summerish. So hard to decide! Lol!

Darlene,
I love the black dresses and the red plaid. Yes those are my favorite colors and they look great on you. I love that you used your black heels for every dress. 😀
Thanks so much, Susan. I appreciate your opinion! I’m tending that way, too. I think I can get the most use of the plaid and the black midi. Gotta love black heels, right?
Have a great weekend and thanks for weighing in!

I would choose for you the leaf print, the floral wrap dress, and the long sleeve wrap dress!
Ah-Ha! So, you like wrap dresses, Nancy! And the leaf print is a super cute one, too! Thanks for sharing your opinion! I appreciate it.

I just adore that hot pink dress! And, that brown dress with the white polka dots reminds me of a dress I just got (and I’m thinking of wearing it to a Fall wedding!).
