It’s that time of the year that’s still kind of summer and not yet fall and dressing can be a challenge. So I have a solution: this collared shift dress!
It’s made in an easy-care fabric, has a comfy fit and comes in three deep shades. What’s not to like?
Shift dresses are always a good choice as they are universally flattering and the loose fit is comfortable yet stylish.
You may remember the basic black shift dress from an earlier post, Nothing Simpler Than a Little Black Dress. This dress has the same shape as the one I am styling today. While I styled it here with heels and statement earrings for a date night look, you could just as easily style it with sneakers (how about leopard sneakers?), or sandals for a super casual look.
This curved-hem dress is still available, and it comes in 6 colors!
The Collared Shift Dress
This dress has been a very hit with fashionistas this season. You can see bloggers styling it all over bloggerland, as they say. The stock is becoming somewhat limited, so pick one up soon!
While it’s still available in black and mustard, too, I chose the rich burgundy color. For some reason, I tend to gravitate to this color every fall. The richness of the color just appeals to me at this time of year. Do you have a seasonal color like that?
I especially like the fabric in this collared shift dress. It’s just heavy enough to drape nicely. The design is pullover and the color gives it a nice look.
Both this collared dress and the black one above feature a curved hemline, a nice detail.
Of course, my husband, i.e. my “professional” photographer, said, “Doesn’t it need a belt?” Duh. The loose shape is the whole point, right? What can I say: old school! Lol! Don’t you love the back pleat?
There are so many ways to style this type of dress. You can wear it now with strappy sandals or sneakers when you’re celebrating the summer sun, then pair with tights or leggings and boots and a light layering jacket to bring the look into the cooler months. Of course, a denim jacket would be a great finishing touch.
I’m showing the dress two ways here: one with leopard sneakers for a super casual feel, and one with pointy-toe heels for a slightly dressed-up look.
Wearing leopard sneakers is a great way to combine two trends in one. Sneakers with dresses is a very popular look, and leopard is still hot! I love animal prints with rich colors like red or burgundy. The contrast is striking! Oh, and did I mention pockets??!! Every girl’s dream, right?
Leopard sneakers come in a variety of styles, like platform, slip-on, zippered, wedges–even low-top skater style sneakers. Love them all!
The slightly dressier look is a monochromatic outfit. The burgundy collared shift dress, suede chunky heels, and burgundy bag create an all-over color scheme that projects a put-together look. Monochromatic outfits are also trending this fall. And really, they look good any time, trending or not, don’t you agree?
The burgundy color of this older bag is such a great piece to hang onto! If you are in the market for a similar bag, check out this inexpensive burgundy bag, and this vegan bag in oxblood.
The heels, from Sole Society, are still available in taupe, black or leopard.
If you’re looking for an easy-to-wear and easy-to-style dress to transition from summer to fall, pick one of these up today. That won’t last very long! Just be sure to explain to your significant other that this style is supposed to be loose-fitting! Haha!
I love this style of this dress so much and own a similar one in black myself. I love that plum one and both ways you styled it because naturally leopard goes with everything. But, as you said also, that monochromatic look is just stunning and so elegant, head to toe!
Yes, I think I remember you in that dress and loved it! These dresses are so easy to style, aren’t they? The monochrome look is very cool this year, too.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Oh I love a good comfy shift dress. How cute is this one especially with those adorable leopard sneakers! I love this color on you, too. It would work with a belt if you were so inclined. But I agree, loose and comfy is way better!

Right! You could definitely add a belt, too. I look for any excuse to wear my leopard sneakers! Lol!

Thanks so much, Mica. It’s a great affordable dress–which I love! I don’t know what it is about burgundy, but it’s always so appealing in the fall, isn’t it?
Have a great week!

I know, right? I often get funny looks from him. He is NOT fond of the “half-tuck” but one must persevere!! Lol!

That is a perfect color for this time of the year. And you can also wear it with boots and a cardigan! Enjoy your weekend Darlene!
I so agree, Nancy! Thanks. Happy weekend to you, too!
