Can you believe Spring begins in just two weeks? While the sun may be shining more often and Daylight Savings is here (gulp), the days and evenings can still be chilly. Well, I’ve got the perfect fresh transition outfit for you today. Some color, some warmth, and some style.
Yup, March 21st is the first day of Spring this year. And boy, are we ready for the renewal that spring generally portends? You betcha! And while we will most certainly wear those adorable sweats and joggers on occasion, it’s time to add some fresh new looks to our wardrobe.
Read on for three cute ways to style a floral top that will work perfectly for this seasonal transition.
The Fresh Transition Outfit
The Fresh Top
This top has the cutest details–especially the pleated puff sleeves. Puff sleeves are a big trend this spring and this top makes the most of that feature. The long sleeves are perfect to wear as we make the winter to spring transition, and the vivid floral pattern keeps the look perky and new.
The fabric is super soft in a slightly stretchy knit.
While I’m styling it here with jeans, it would look super cute with pink or coral pants–or even white jeans or slacks.
There are SO many choices in jeans these days, it can be tough to choose. How many styles do you have in your closet? The pair shown here is “cigarette” style in an ankle-length.
In case you’re wondering–cause I know I was!–what is the difference between cigarette and skinny jeans? While cigarette jeans are cut straight from knee to ankle, skinny jeans follow the line of the leg and fit snugly from hip to ankle. A slight difference, but the looser fit on the lower leg is part of the bigger trend toward looser-fitting jeans this season.
Of course, a darker wash jean is generally more slimming. Not that you should only go with a dark wash when there are so many fab washes to choose from! But the darker background allows the vivid flowers in the top to pop.
Wedge sneakers are a great option when you want the comfort of slip-on sneakers but a little bit of heel and a slightly dressier style. Again, there are lots of brands–I’ve linked two below.
Just by adding a little heel, you “elevate” an outfit. A simple jeans and top outfit quickly takes on a whole new vibe. Don’t want to wear high heels? I totally get that. My maximum heel height is usually about 2 1/2 inches when I want to be comfortable, which is most of the time! So those 3 inch and higher heels just aren’t for me.
The answer? Kitten heels! At about 1 3/4 inches, you can dress up your look and look and still feel comfortable.
Here, I’ve opted for nude slingback heels in a suede fabric. These have cute cut-outs for a little extra style. I have these shoes in tan and black. They are so versatile!
The Transitional Jackets
The perfect jacket for a casual transition outfit is a utility-style jacket. This style is slightly longer than a basic denim jacket and like a denim jacket, it goes with everything. It provides just a hint of edginess.
Finally, we know that spring brings rain, right? As in, “April showers bring May flowers.” (Even though it isn’t strictly April, though.) So, often a raincoat, or trench is needed. So, I happily pulled out my boxy yellow raincoat. For those of you who’ve been following me for a while, you may remember the post featuring this coat by Isaac Mizrahi that was part of a Target collaboration. Nothing like a bright yellow raincoat in the rain, right?
It’s easy to create a fresh transition outfit that isn’t boring. Inject a little color and pattern–along with puffed sleeves–in your top with your dark wash jeans and a light jacket and you are ready for everything!
