I was reminded recently of the power of a one-color outfit. A fellow blogger from the Netherlands put together a super cute outfit in multiple shades of blue that totally inspired me. (You can see it here.) So, today I am styling a monochromatic blue outfit.
While her outfit was a bit fancier with a full skirt and heels, this one is sticking with my theme of casual looks this week. Since most of us celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday by (over) eating and watching football, we tend to dress casually. In that vein, this outfit is a comfy, casual outfit that is easy to put together.
In addition to being easy to put together, every piece in this outfit is affordable and well under $75. You can’t beat that right?
The monochromatic blue outfit
Let’s start with a pair of basic light-wash jeans. I first shared these pants in this post where I reviewed Universal Thread jeans. (I had to laugh when I saw that we shot the photos in the exact same spot!! Not intentional!) These are still among my favorites and the price is amazing. Especially right now! You can pick up a pair for $15!
I’ve been seeing quite a few basic v-neck sweaters trending. A simple sweater is always a fall-back when you are looking for casual style. This pretty powder blue completed my monochromatic blue outfit. Once again, the price is right for this sweater, that also comes in 12–yes 12!!–additional colors. And at under $20, you can’t beat it!
The shoes and bag
I could have gone with a totally monochromatic blue outfit but decided to change out the shoes and bag. And I love the soft tones of pale blue and tan together, don’t you? My son was over when my professional photographer (my husband!) was taking photos and he commented that he really liked these colors together. You take these compliments from your kids when you can get them, right? And I agree with him.
Now about this cute little clutch, that can also be worn as a shoulder bag. The tan and sherpa look is having a moment right now, and it ‘s such a great winter look! This little bag is another Target find; they had several styles like this with sherpa. I think it’s smarter to buy pieces like this in the less expensive version as you won’t use this a lot and probably only for one or two seasons. So this faux leather and sherpa is a good–and inexpensive–choice.
I’ve definitely styled these booties in several posts, and I can’t say enough about them! They were an NSale purchase from this past summer and are still available. But they are now priced at 50% off. Is this another one of those items that only I liked during the sale? Haha! I think you will like them for both comfort and style.
The accessories
These fun earrings were an inexpensive find from Loft, and my tassel necklace is an older one that still works for lots of my outfits, so you will continue to see it from time to time.
You can see lots of striking monochromatic outfits on Pinterest! Here are just a few–take a look at this page and this page. My favorites are outfits styled with mostly one tone and a contrasting shade, like an all blue outfit with a bright green jacket. SO cute! I’ll be styling something like that in the future! How about you?
Thanks for stopping by today. I am honored that you have taken some time from your busy day to spend a little time with me talking about fashion and lifestyle. Please let me know what you think–I LOVE to hear from you, dear readers!
What a lovely surprise Darlene! Thank you! Love your look. The jeans are great and that clutch is fab!
Hi Nancy,
I meant to warn you, but I was totally inspired by your post!! Thanks for the inspiration, and best wishes for a wonderful weekend!
xx Darlene
Happy Thanksgiving to you too! It will be a smaller get together this year at our house as my step-daughter and her family have to be elsewhere. However, we will still have a wonderful time – lots of food and good conversations.
Hi, Lori,
Sometimes smaller can be nice! Our group seems to get smaller every year as nieces and nephews get married and have kids and other families to go to as well.
Wishing you a wonderful day!
xx Darlene
