You know the old saying: What goes around comes around. Well, that is certainly true of the sweater vest. At some time or another, we’ve all worn them. I have a couple of them in my closet right now, and yes, I will be pulling them out this fall!
You will see sweater vests of all styles, colors, knit fabrics, and prints everywhere this fall. A vest is an excellent way to add a bit of warmth over a top without a heavy sweater in the colder months and lightweight versions look chic all by themselves!
To illustrate, I’m showing this sweater vest two ways–to wear now and later on.
The Summer Sweater Vest
Since we’re just hitting the hot stride of August weather, shorts are in order! And a cute pair of shorts look cute with an airy knit vest like this one.
The drop short sleeves are a popular look and perfect if you aren’t fond of sleeveless styles. This piece is made of cotton knit in an open-weave style to keep you cool for now.
I’m styling it here with cuffed shorts and my Birkenstock sandals. The neutral stripe pattern will look great with lots of colors!
Transitional Vest Outfit
For a super cute casual to dressy look, style a vest with palazzo pants or wide-leg twill pants like these. I am loving the comfort and chic look of these pants!
I love the look of flats with flowy pants like these, but totally flat shoes just aren’t comfortable for me. The solution? These adorable platform wedges give that cutesy “flats” look, but have amazing arch support and feel great on your feet!
These Vionic wedges are the kind of shoes you can wear all day and still look chic! They come in several colors.
Sweater Vest Style for Fall
For fall, just change out the shorts for jeans or jeggings. Or style it with camel trousers and cognac accessories for a classy feel.
I’ve styled the vest with my Frame cuffed jeans. I’m liking the lower rise of these jeans–just for a change! A front tuck keeps the sweater from looking too bulky with the looser-fitting jeans.
My older cognac bag and pointy-toe boots give it a whole new look.
There are lots of options to choose from in sweater vests. Here a just a few:
I can see it over a denim shirt or dress, with jeans and booties. It would also work well as a professional piece with a pencil skirt and a stylish blazer.
Now, it’s definitely too hot right now to share a winter look for this vest, but you can use your imagination. Picture all the ways you can style this for the colder months ahead! Pick up a sweater vest to style now on its own and later as a warm and cozy layer.
