Who wouldn’t like a periwinkle sweater? There is something about this color that most everyone finds appealing. Maybe because it’s a color produced naturally in Nature?
The color word periwinkle comes from the plant periwinkle, a trailing evergreen plant with starry blue flowers that grows along the ground. But did you also know that it is the name of a small sea snail in the Atlantic Ocean that is edible? Ah-ha! There’s a new one for you!! Lol! For me, too.
Here is a Pinterest page with sensory images of all things periwinkle. Beautiful!
In any case, it’s such a pretty color that seems to flatter almost any complexion.
What to wear to complement this color? There are lots of opinions and advice for wearing this color, and here are a few suggestions:
Yellow is the true complement of violet and blue-violet, so shades of lemon, sunflower, mustard, and gold contrast with periwinkle without a clash.
Periwinkle matches well with pink, turquoise, beige, green and yellow, apricot, carrot, pea-green, sky blue, or violet-blue.
Yellow-brown shades blend perfectly with this color.
Try seafoam and jade green with periwinkle.
Bottom line: Like anything else, wear it with whatever you choose to! It’s a color you can certainly have fun with!
The Periwinkle Sweater Outfit
This is a very inexpensive sweater, but, once again, the color makes up for it! The fabric is a soft knitted fabric with a hint of spandex to hold its shape. The turtleneck, cuffs, and hem have ribbed detailing.
The fabric in this sweater contains at least 20% recycled polyester, meaning that 20% is created by turning old plastic into new polyester. Interesting, right? It’s nice that companies are becoming committed to promoting sustainability. It also comes in beige, red, olive green, and black. For sizing info, I sized down to an XS as I wanted a more fitted style, and I think it runs just a touch large.
You can pair it with skinny jeans and sneakers for a cool casual look, or dress it up with a skirt or slacks and pumps. It’ll be warm and cozy this fall and winter.
The Outfit Pieces
You’ve seen these jeans before and they continue to be my very favorite. The high waist, skimming fit “Mom” style jeans are flattering without being ultra-tight. They are a vintage style from Madewell and are at a fair price point for quality jeans.
While I didn’t follow the suggestions I’ve read about, I decided to pair the sweater with a rusty-colored braided belt and a rust-and-black animal print tote. The tote is made of canvas material and is both stylish and practical. The price is right, too.
It’s always fun to jazz up an outfit–even a super casual one–with statement earrings. These periwinkle and pearl drop earrings add some bling to the otherwise simple sweater and jeans outfit. They are from Sugarfix–the Baublebar line at Target. SO cute, don’t you think?
The pointed toe booties from Vince Camuto were a big hit with bloggers as part of the Nordstrom Fall PreSale. I am not fond of 3 1/2 inch heels for anything, and I found these 2-inch booties in a similar style. They come in other colors, too. The heel and fit are super comfortable–a key feature in my book!
