The new trend toward straight jeans gives us lots of options for a new look. A great way to incorporate this style is through these high-waist cobalt jeans!
The bold color is definitely one I love. It looks good on almost everyone and it’s easy to wear with other things in one’s closet.
Wearability is (almost) always my criteria for purchasing a wardrobe item. I say “almost” because sometimes you’ve just gotta have that particular piece because it calls to you! Know what I mean? Lol! But in this case, I knew this color of pants would not only perk up my jeans wardrobe but they would also be easy to style with lots of things in my closet. And really, who doesn’t love cobalt, right?
Forgive my aside here, but I do wonder: where the heck did this color name come from? After all, cobalt is actually a silvery-white metallic element. Apparently, by mixing cobalt with aluminum (in a chemical process I can’t begin to describe!), you get cobalt blue. Impressionist and Post Impressionist painters used this color a great deal after it was discovered in 1818. Vincent van Gogh is quoted as saying to his brother Teo, ‘Cobalt blue is a divine color and there is nothing so beautiful for putting atmosphere around things…” Well, we have to agree, right?
Now onto cobalt blue in fashion…
The Cobalt Jeans
The pockets are described as “sculpting” and are said to “…smooth, flatter and hold your shape…Performance stretch sculpts, shapes, and supports all day long.” When I saw that, I thought, count me in! Haha!
The high-rise profile truly is slimming. They are fitted through the hip and thigh with a full-length that is supposed to hit above the ankle. Even though these are petite size 6, my usual, they are a bit longer. I can’t decide whether I should have them hemmed a bit. What do you think? The straight leg can be a little tricky as to where it hits on your leg. You don’t want the dreaded “high-water” look, so this is definitely a consideration for this style.
However, I am willing to try these, as I love the color and the higher waist and pocket features.
The pants also come in light tan and are available in a wide range of styles in both regular and petite.
How to Style Cobalt Jeans
I’m sharing three possible ways to style these pants to illustrate just how versatile this shade of blue truly is.
The first look is with my periwinkle sweater from the post, Add Some Color With A Periwinkle Sweater from last fall. I knew instantly that this would be a bold color combo!
Blue faux-velvet booties just seem like the perfect match here! I bought these booties when I first started my blog–four years ago!. They are one of those “just because I liked them” purchases. I pull them out every so often just for fun! I love the pop of brilliance they add! I’ve linked a few options below, just in case you like them, too!
Along with the pants, I picked up this adorable neck scarf. The combination of the cobalt blue with the neutral shades in the animal print is so pretty and will look great in many ways.
A white blouse offers a nice contrast to the bright blue of the pants. I added the calf-hair belt I’ve shown MANY times before.
From the great sales before Christmas, I purchased these fig colored flats and the quilted shoulder bag. These are good wardrobe workhorses that I can use a lot this spring and on into the future.
Finally, my camel coat recently featured in the post, The Camel Coat: A Winter Staple, serves as the perfect topper on a cool day.
I couldn’t resist styling the pants with my older leopard print button-front shirt. The mix of leopard print in the shoes and the scarf made it fun for me. Is it too much matchy-matchy leopard for you?
These are just three ways to style cobalt jeans. I’ll bet you can think of a multitude of other outfits to put together!
