It’s almost spring and time to bring out those vibrant Easter Egg colors! Like mint green, deep pink, bright yellow, baby blue, lilac deep blue, and so on…With those colors in mind, I’m styling a fresh color palette in this amethyst orchid outfit.
Amethyst orchid, you ask? That’s just one of many pretty colors selected for spring and summer by the Pantone Institute for 2021.
Pantone’s Spring/Summer Color Selections
According to Pantone Color Institute experts, colors for Spring/Summer 2021 New York emphasize our desire for a range of color that inspires ingenuity and inventiveness – colors whose versatility transcend the seasons and allow for more freedom of choice – colors that lend themselves to original color statements and whose flexibility easily adapts to our new and more fragmented lifestyle.
Here is an example of the colors they are suggesting for spring and summer this year:
Lots of vivid, pretty shades for spring, right? They do seem to indicate a fresh, new start.
While they are just one voice in the design industry, their color choices do influence fashion and home design in a big way.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, bloggers, including me, often take note of Pantone’s selections each year and style a look or two. It’s a fun way to try a new color pallette on for size and honor each new season.
For today’s look, I’m trying the spring/summer color, amethyst orchid, which is new for me!
My Amethyst Orchid Outfit
The sweater I styled in the recent post, Red Accessories Make the Look, is likely the purest example of amethyst orchid I own. But as we each interpret these recommended colors, any shade from that color family will do. For my outfit, the orchid is a paler hue.
Tapered Cargo Pants in Orchid
These tapered pants with the self-belt are just one iteration of the trend toward a looser-fit pant style. It’s a nice change to incorporate into our skinny pants and jeans wardrobes! The color is a light lilac in the same family as orchid. They come in four additional colors.
As part of the Universal Threads line at Target, they are super affordable–and on sale! Here are a few of the features:
- Tie belt around the waist can be adjusted to give you a perfect fit. You can also replace it with a belt of your choice
- Added spandex ensures comfort
- Side and front cargo pockets!
- Available in extended sizes — Women’s and Women’s Plus
As these pants have elements of a basic cargo pant, they will look great styled casually with sneakers and a tee or a white peasant top and sandals!
The Puff Sleeve Top
Puffed sleeves are all the rage this spring and are a nice change for spring. This top is made of a voile fabric so it hangs nicely. Voile is a thin, semitransparent fabric of cotton, wool, or silk, in this case, cotton.
The sleeves are actually lined, which is a surprise, but I think the lining preserves the full balloon detail of the sleeve. This length is just enough to either wear it out or easily tuck it in.
Andrea of Living on Cloud Nine styled the green gingham version–it’s cute and bright and perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. It also comes in an orchid color! (A la Pantone!), along with five other colors.
What shoes to wear? Hmm. I couldn’t decide as there are so many that would work. White booties? Neutral pumps? So I took the opportunity to pull out my orchid suede shoes from some time ago–a favorite!
How do you see yourself trying amethyst orchid or any other of these Pantone colors to your wardrobe? It’s a fun way to inject something new or fresh into your style.
