Being on the short side, with shortish legs, I tend to choose more tailored items, particularly in pants to give me a clean line. So it was a total surprise when I tried on this pair of wide-leg pants and liked them!! Have you tried wide-leg pants yet?
The story
I’ve talked a lot about wearing shorts and flaunting your legs without regard to their flaws, right? There is also a lot of talk about the millennials and most of it isn’t good. So I want to share a great story about a millennial–my son, Max–and his vision of women.
We recently went to see “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.” The female actor is Bryce Howard. For those of us of a certain age, we know that she is the daughter of Happy Days star and Producer Ron Howard. She is an attractive redhead, with a full figure. I made a comment about how nice it was to see a “normal” figure in a movie. My son went on to say that he doesn’t like all the fake skinny models and that he thought she was beautiful just like she was. That he was hoping to find someone as pretty and shapely as she is and that his friends feel the same way. I would like to say that it’s from my influence (lol!), but I honestly believe this age group is kinder and more compassionate than some of those previous. Certainly more so than my generation. This is just one example of the level-headedness I’ve observed. It was refreshing to hear that he respects the fact that women do have a shape with curves.
Now to the outfit…
The wide-leg pants outfit
These pants are by Halogen, but are not part of the infamous NSale! I know, it’s hard to believe! Haha! They actually came in a Trunk Club selection and are not expensive.
While these wide-leg pants are longish, they are fairly lightweight as they are a linen blend fabric. The chambray color makes them extremely versatile as it goes with almost everything. They are also nicely tailored at the waist which gives them shape. And they have pockets!! Love that!
The secret to styling wide-leg pants is the same rule of thumb as most any other outfit: to offset the wide look of the pants, you need to wear a tailored top. That way, you give yourself a waist and add shape to your outfit. What you don’t want is baggy with baggy or you might look like a bag person! (Sorry, couldn’t help it with the baggy comment! lol!)
The wide-leg pant is a great transition piece. You can wear them now with a summer top and sandals, and later with a sweater and booties. A fitted turtleneck would look really good with these pants.
The top, shoes, and accessories
Do you love gingham? I do, too, and this cute spaghetti strap top can be worn so many ways. And guess what? It’s another great piece from Target. It is currently on clearance, so if you want one, order it quickly!! Once again, your outfit needs only one standout piece (meaning more costly) that can be styled with other inexpensive items. Works every time!
You’ve seen these cute wedges before. I love the 50’s look of them!
Since I styled the outfit for summer, the cobalt blue tassel earrings added just the right touch to keep it fun and light. Here is a very cute pair that IS part of the NSale, so the price is right! And I am loving my navy blue J. Crew bracelet–check it out here.
My NSale items are arriving daily so I really will share some of my “finds” with you before the sale ends. And I also have some great “finds” from my trip to Northern Michigan along with pretty photos of that area. All coming soon…
