How about a little boho style? Today I am styling a boho style summer outfit for a change of pace. As I love almost any shade of yellow, I am loving this skirt! It was part of a Trunk Club selection. I chose not to keep it as it was pricey, but of course, it’snow on sale! Nothing new there! I was thinking about reconsidering it, but with the Nordstrom sale coming up soon–can you believe July 12th is the Anniversary presale??!!–I’m holding off on most any summer clothing purchase. At least for now…
How was your 4th of July celebration? We had gorgeous weather and spent most of the day in the pool, and eating and drinking. After the fireworks, our family members went home and it was time to take our doggies on their evening walk. It was such a beautiful warm evening stroll, and then–guess what? Our dog Sergeant chased after what looked like a big cat but turned out to be an even bigger skunk!! Yes, it’s skunk season here in our area and now Sergeant knows it well! We spent the latter part of our holiday bathing him with the supposedly foolproof skunk removal mixture of Dawn dish soap, vinegar, and baking soda. And here’s another news flash: there is really no magic skunk formula for getting rid of the horrendous smell!! Ugh.
Unfortunately, that smell stays with him despite lots of bathing and soaking. And it also stays in the house or anywhere he goes. He is sitting under my desk as I write this and the stink is emanating off of him.
Even Scooter doesn’t want to be near him! Oh, the joys of dogs and wild animals! He was very leery of stepping foot off the sidewalk on tonight’s walk, so at least he learned something from the experience. This isn’t our first experience, as it seems to happen to one or another of our dogs every year. Just thought I’d share this little tidbit with you so you can celebrate NOT going through this! Lol!
Now, for the outfit…
The Boho style summer outfit
This skirt is described as a midi length, but of course, on me, it is almost a maxi. Well, it’s cute either way! When it came in the Trunk Club box, it was pretty wrinkled and I frankly wasn’t very impressed. But since it was a pretty mustard yellow, I took it out and ironed it to check it out. Each item in the Trunk Club comes in a plastic baggie with a label so you know they are brand new. But that also means that most of the items are subject to wrinkling in those tiny bags. This is my one criticism of Nordstrom’s Trunk Club. In this case, once I got it ironed out, I could see the potential for this ruffled hem skirt.
Something I’ve discovered recently is how nice mustard and burgundy are together. It seems like an odd combination but I saw the combo in lots of clothing items last winter and decided I like it very much. What do you think?
A burgundy top or tee would look great with this skirt and keep the casual, boho look. I have a v-neck tee from Target in burgundy that would look very cute and I would pair that with sneakers for a super casual look.
As I was going for a boho style summer outfit, in this case, I paired the skirt with an ivory ruffled top. This one is from Loft. Check out a similar one here, on sale. I also decided that a pair of older gold gladiator sandals would keep the outfit boho. You can see a more current looking gladiator sandal in gold here.
Gold filigree earrings and bangle bracelets were in keeping with the boho style as well. And finally, a round straw bag gave the outfit the touch of summer that I was going for.
What do you think? Is a boho style summer outfit something you might style this summer? If you haven’t tried this look, pair a maxi with some flat sandals and a floating top, add some statement earrings and you are totally ready–boho style!
Have a wonderful weekend!
