For the recent collaboration with my blogging group Match Made in Seven, one of our members chose “brown fashion” as the topic for our posts. See the post, Look Beautiful in Basic Brown Fashion. I quickly realized I don’t have a lot of brown pieces in my wardrobe and miss them. This brown plaid popover outfit is an attempt to remedy that!
Have you ever noticed that when you pay attention to something, you begin to notice there are many more of those things than you realized? Say–white cars. I never really paid attention to them until I began to look for them, and guess what? I think there just may be more white cars than any other color. That is not a scientific study, however, just my best guess! Lol!
The same is true for clothing, I think. After realizing the scarcity of brown in my closet, I started paying attention to all things brown. And strangely enough, there appears to be a lot more brown in fashion these days. Or was it always there? Or possibly, is it a winter thing?
In any case, brown isn’t just for winter. It can be worn year-round depending on how you style it.
The Brown Plaid Popover Outfit
In any case, brown isn’t just for winter. Its many shades can be worn year-round depending on how you style them. The outfit today is definitely styled for winter, but imagine the possibilities with this brown popover top.
Once again, I saw this top and passed, then went back to it when I started to see the possibilities. The earthy brown plaid can go with so many things and since it’s made of cotton, I can wear it year-round. Can you picture it with a denim skirt or shorts in the summer? And a pair of sandals? What a cute summer look!
What really sold me was the color, then the fun style. It’s all in the details, after all. The sleeves are a raglan cut with dropped shoulders–so flattering on everyone!–and the are puffed with cinched cuffs, making it so cute.
I wore the top loose over my faux suede pants, but you can also do a full or partial tuck.
These taupe faux suede pants are super comfortable. They are an easy pull-on style so there is just enough stretch. They are super affordable, too! I just love them! What do you think? They also come in black.
These Vionic booties continue to be a favorite. These are a toffee color with hidden orthotic arch support with ruching and a stacked heel. Cute and comfortable? Perfect.
To dress things up just a bit, I added a faux tortoiseshell necklace and these wide resin hoop earrings to bring out the brown tones. It’s amazing how a little faux jewelry can change the look of an outfit, isn’t it?
If you are looking to add a little more brown into your wardrobe, check out these pieces. At this time of year, it’s a good idea to choose items that you can wear now and as we transition to spring and summer. And remember, brown can be beautiful!
