Are you ready for the cooler weather ahead? Coats, sweaters, and scarves have been in the stores for some time now. To help you get ready, I’m styling a button front coat and fleece turtleneck outfit that you may love as much as I do.
Recently, I wrote a post about trench coats for fall. (You can check it out here.) It seemed too early to start talking trench coats, but autumn is already underway in many parts of the world.
Ladies around the globe are suddenly inventorying their coat wardrobes for the coming seasons. Since fall quickly blends into winter, it is certainly time to think ahead and prepare your wardrobe accordingly.
And speaking of coming seasons, can you believe Christmas is only 97 days away? Which means Halloween will pass by in a blink and it will soon be Thanksgiving here in the states. Yikes! Hard to believe, right? Very soon we’ll be talking holiday gifts and outfits, and makeup and jewelry and recipes and–well, you know! The list is endless, right? But let’s not get ahead of ourselves…
Of course, in warmer climates like the South, Southwest, and here in Southern California, winter means temps going no lower than the 50’s during the day, but the nights can be quite cool. So even in our climates, a cute coat is something we all covet. And of course, many of you travel, right? So you need a cute coat for those trips as well.
The button front coat and fleece turtleneck
Ok, let’s start with the turtleneck. Are you a fan? I have always loved turtlenecks. Must be my mid-western conservative bent! Lol! But they must be soft and not contain wool. This super cute version is both.
It has a layered back flap that provides interest. Details like that turn a classic into a trend. It is under $60 and comes in four colors. I love them all–especially this potent purple (that’s the name of the color!)–something I don’t have a lot of in my closet.
The coat was an unexpected piece in a recent Trunk Club. You KNOW I love the mustard yellow color!! Not being a coat connoisseur, it seems a bit pricey but is actually in the general price point for a wool coat.
I love the spread collar and front flap pockets. The coat has a sporty look and feel that is totally in line with my style. Does it match your style?
Of course, black pants provide the perfect backdrop for the button front coat and fleece turtleneck outfit and help to highlight the black lace in the floral booties. My own wonderful Paige black jeans (similar here high waist style–on sale!) would be perfect for a casual look. I absolutely LOVE the Paige brand for the quality and fit. However, here I am styling some cropped black tuxedo pants as I wanted to show off these fab shoes! Dress slacks would look equally stunning for a work, dressy, or another occasion.
The surprise–pulling it all together!
Also in my trunk came these absolutely amazing booties! I fell immediately in love. This style of bootie with a kitten heel and pointy toe is trending big-time. They are surprisingly comfortable and I, of course, love the lower heel. How about you? Don’t you just love the multi-lace floral? SO cute.
This particular bootie is from a major shoe designer and they are priced moderately. They come in 8 colors besides the lace floral, from neutrals to metallic.
The booties absolutely pull the button front coat and fleece turtleneck together to make a stunning outfit. The contrast of the purple against the mustard is striking–they are two colors that look gorgeous together!
And finally–the piece de la resistance!! The hat! It’s a “porkpie fedora” which means, I guess, that you can pull the brim down like a fedora or leave it flipped up like a porkpie! In any case, I actually bought it to style with another outfit, but the burgundy has a touch of purple in it, much like the turtleneck, and the shoes have both colors, so it’s a win/win! You can pick one up here for under $18. It even has an adjustable band.
Trunk Club does it again
So, what do you think of this seemingly simple button front coat and fleece turtleneck outfit? All the pieces came in my Trunk Club selection. I asked my stylist to include pieces that mix and match, with an emphasis on yellow (surprise!), kitten heels, and classic pieces along with something unique and unexpected. And boy, she delivered. If you haven’t tried Trunk Club you are missing a great shopping experience. You don’t have to keep anything, and I am very picky about what I choose and what I send back. I’ve asked for moderately priced items with a few unique pieces here and there. It’s really fun to see what your stylist selects! As I’ve said before, it really helps you step out of your clothing rut! I never would have picked up these amazing booties!

Love the mix of colors, and those are some cute booties! I sometimes start with my boots when i come up with an outfit. Love the bright yellow for a fun color in the colder months.
