Let’s face it. We all have that fallback outfit we reach for time and time again, right? I’m guessing that yours is the same as mine: a casual jeans and sweater outfit. Or, as our British friends say, a jeans and jumper outfit.
Sweater weather is the best part of Fall. Sunny days followed by cool nights is the perfect weather for sweaters. Whether it’s a pullover, crewneck, turtleneck, mock neck, cowlneck, cardigan, twin set, long duster, a poncho–yikes, the list is long!–these oh-so-comfy tops are quintessentially Fall.
The textures and fabrics are just as broad and varied and you can select from thin and soft, like cashmere, or heavy and super warm, like a cable knit sweater. One of the latest crazes is the eyelash sweater. What?! These are soft, fuzzy items that can really dress up an outfit.
And don’t get me started on styles! Crewnecks are the traditional year-round favorite, and mock- and turtlenecks pop up in the fall and winter. But one of the most flattering styles is the V-neck, which I’m styling here in this casual outfit.
Casual Jeans and Sweater Outfit
The Sweater
A V-neck sweater is considered slightly more formal than a crewneck, as accessories add much to this sweater look. A scarf or a necklace can really change up the look of this style, which can also be worn over a blouse or a tank. Left alone, the V-neck also adds length to one’s neck. Now that’s something most of us can use to our advantage, right?
One of the very best things about sweaters is how affordable they can be. You can certainly spend a lot for a quality wool or cashmere sweater, but you can also find a large selection of good-looking sweaters made with cotton and acrylic fabrics that look super cute.
While I have several cashmere sweaters in my wardrobe, my preference for every day is a cotton blend, as in this sweater. This is another sweater from Target, from their Prologue line. You can find sophisticated simple pieces in this line that you can style lots of ways and for almost any occasion. I have several of these pieces, like the teal sweatshirt dress I styled in the post, Casual Teal Sweatshirt Dress for the holidays. It’s well-made and super soft. I got a lot of wear out of it last winter! Just like this basic V-neck sweater.
The green is out of stock, but it also comes in grey, black, and tan. It’s a great buy priced just under $25!
The Jeans and Accessories
Once again, I’m styling these barely bootcut jeans from Talbots with the Vionic wedge booties. See the bootcut jeans here in indigo and black bootcut. I picked up these cute disk earrings from our local Chico’s Outlet. They have great deals on jewelry! Check out their site here: Chico’s Off the Rack. You can see the leopard-print calf hair belt here. Accessories make the look, right?
Scottish Plaid and the Casual Jeans and Sweater Outfit
The final accessory for this outfit makes the whole look come together. My adorable plaid bag! My husband bought me this when we were in Luss, Scotland this past summer. Luss is an adorable little village on the banks of Loch Lomond. You remember that from the famous Scottish song, right? “You take the high road and I’ll take the low road…On the bonny, bonny banks o’ Loch Lomand.” I must have learned it in choir in elementary school, but these fun things stay with you, don’t they?

He bought me the matching wallet and a cute rose pin made from the fabric. You’ll see it again in future posts. Another plaid to add to my collection! Lol!
The next time you call upon your casual sweater and jeans outfit as a fallback, add a little color or some fun accessories. With bootcut jeans and booties, you’ll be right on trend!
Darlene, this color is absolutely brilliant on you! I love the vee neck style and the contrast with the super dark wash jeans. Another great outfit! Thanks for linking up.

Shelbee, I kept noticing super cute green things on other bloggers, and kept thinking, hmmm, I don’t have much in that color!! Lol! Hence the celery green sweater! Thanks for all your hard work on hosting link parties and making such specific responses. It does show you read–and care!

Beautiful color! I almost never wear jeans. My go to outfit would be a dress and boots! Have a good weekend Darlene!
You are so the exception to the jeans rule, Nancy. And you still have such an elegant style! Happy weekend to you my friend!
