When you think of casual style, jeans always come to mind. Whether they are skinny or flared or frayed or cuffed, they are a natural for go-to style. In looking through past posts, I see a trend for casual jeans outfits.
For younger fashionistas, jeans have always been a critical piece of their wardrobe. Jeans are something you can wear both formally and informally. But for those of us of a certain age, we remember jeans as something you could only wear on the weekend or after work or school. How times have changed! Jeans are now absolutely a wardrobe staple and most of us have them in many styles and colors. They are acceptable in the workplace in many instances, although not in my profession–educational administration. Is wearing jeans acceptable in your workplace?
The good news is that jeans are so flattering–you just have to find the right fit for your body. Then you can branch out to experiment with all the fun new ways to wear them! And since almost anything goes, you can play with skinnies, straight, high-rise, cropped, girlfriend (or boyfriend!), in light, medium, and dark washes as well as bleached shades, and even deconstructed styles.
So today’s post is a recap of the many ways to style this weekend-ready outfit.
The Recap: Casual Jeans Outfits
Here are several ways to style casual jeans outfits. I’ve included various styles and jean colors and very laid-back to dressier casual looks.
For the first look, I’m sharing a fun style from a post last summer. I love these super soft and comfortable jeans! They have frayed–or in this case shredded–hems on a pair of straight leg jeans. A white top is always a great look with denim, don’t you agree?
These jeans check all the boxes: straight leg, shredded hem, cropped, and lightwash.

Lightwash jeans have been trending and are great for summer style! Many of them come in lighter weights, too, making them perfect for warmer weather. This pair is from a Target line and I did a review of their jeans. A winner! These are skinny style and have a raw hem. Just change out the bag for a straw version and add sandals!
Another jean style that is popular this spring is the cuffed hem jean. I really like these! For those of you who really don’t want to wear shorts, this style is a good choice. (But you know I believe EVERY one of us should wear our legs proudly!) They’re perfect for a cool evening or a trip to the overcooled mall in the summer, too. How about capri length jeans? This is another great option for spring and summer, and even those warm days in the fall.
Straight style jeans made a big comeback recently. They are always a good option and fit almost everybody. While they are decidedly casual, you can also dress them up with heels and a dressy top or a blazer.
In this recent post, I styled raw-hem jeans with a graphic tee and blazer. These are a form of the skinny jean, which is slim and fitted. Always a safe choice for a casual sophisticated look.
