We are in between rainstorms at the moment and the temperature is quite cool. I don’t know what the weather is where you are, but it looks like most of the U.S. is experiencing crazy extremes. So what to wear? I’m opting for a casual transitional look today with a straight style jeans outfit.
The Jeans Back Story
Traditional straight style jeans are back! This style has made a big comeback, starting with the introduction of higher waists in jeans, or so-called “mom jeans.” Who can remember the past years (not too far removed!) when all the pants were such a low-rise that you couldn’t bend over?! And not so flattering to the waistline unless you had a super slim and taut tummy. Well, we all had that at one time in our lives, right? Just not after 40! (I know–maybe when we were toddlers? Haha!)
This was the time when the term “muffin top” was coined. And it was the bane of our fashion existence! Skinny jeans were on the dreaded list when they first came out, too, but once they added a bit of stretch, they became wearable for most anyone. And with the option of a higher waist, they can actually be quite flattering.
But it’s definitely time to go beyond the skinny style and it’s nice to see the traditional straight style jeans fit and even the slight flared hems back in style. And the denim fabrics keep getting better and better and softer and a bit stretchier with all kinds of fits to choose from. Change is good, right?
The Casual Outfit
Wearing these straight style jeans takes me back to my teens. This style was about all we had and of course, we called them Levi’s cause most jeans were made by Levis. It’s hard to imagine today when there are virtually hundreds, if not thousands, of lines of jeans. The pair I’m styling is a traditional straight fit from the Gap with very little stretch. The medium wash, I think, looks perfect with a white top.
The Top and Cardigan
Can you ever really have TOO many white tops? I don’t think so. I have many styles and manage to wear all of them a lot. Is that true for you, too? This split front top has a loose fit and a front twist that you can tuck in. It was a great buy from Target and is only available in dark chambray in size Small or the same white one in Plus size. Grrr. I’ve linked some super cute similar versions below.
Do you have a longer black cardigan in your closet? These sweaters are so easy to style and look as good with a casual outfit as they do a professional or even an evening look. And of course, a long cardigan finishes a straight style jeans outfit with a little classic flair.
White sneakers continue to trend, but really, who cares?! Most of us continue to wear them because we just plain love them, right? And there is such a wonderful array of styles and materials to choose from nowadays. Not to mention the very fun patterned ones this spring. For example, these adorable leopard print sneakers!
I still love these leather sneakers from Ecco. I’ve had them a few years and know I’ll wear them for many more. And the cute little bag was a gift from my son for Christmas. He buys me the cutest gifts–he’ll make some young gal very happy someday!
A Little Fun in an Ivy Cap!
My husband (oops–I mean my professional photographer! Lol!), and I decided to have a little fun. He often wears this Navy Ivy cap and striped scarf on these cold days and said how great they looked with my jeans. Hey, I’m not the only fashionista in the family! Lol! So we took a few photos! My family calls this cap his Irish hat. What?!! In any case, he thought it looked cute. I thought it looked a bit better on him, but it was fun nonetheless.
Thanks for stopping by on this not-yet-spring day. Have a wonderful week!
