Are you keeping up with your resolutions for the new year? I’ll bet you have one related to managing or budgeting your money, right? Seems like I make one of those every year, and it’s the most difficult to stick to! But in terms of fashion, you don’t have to blow your resolution. Today I’m styling an affordable outfit for casual winter fashion.
When it comes to affordable fashion, there are several options for shopping. By far, my favorite is still Target. I’ve shared some amazing fashion finds from Target–you can see some of them in these posts:

Finding casual winter fashion is easy. A warm and cozy sweater, some dark jeans and booties and you are all set. Read on…
Casual Winter Fashion: My Affordable Outfit
On a recent shopping trip to Target (just to see what’s new, of course!), I came across this plaid sweater. Now, those of you who’ve been following me for a while know that I am a BIG fan of mustard yellow. Naturally, that drew me in right off the bat! And plaid is such a winter staple, so the combination of mustard and black was a big attraction for me.

Lots of tops would work under this sweater, including black or tan and a couple of shades of yellow. You could also do a bit of pattern mixing by adding a print under the large plaid pattern. For this outfit, however, I stuck with my off-white elbow-length turtleneck.
Do you need to refresh the black jeans collection in your closet? I have a couple of pairs but needed a darker plain pair. These jeans by Universal Threads were exactly what I needed! They have great stretch, a higher waist (so great for smoothing the waistline), and the color is rich and black. And you can’t beat the price! They can be ordered online in short (my size), regular and tall. And returns are easy as well, so don’t hesitate to give them a try.
You can read an earlier review of jeans by Universal Thread here.
Booties are the quintessential winter boot, and I still like these a lot. I like a heel, and these give me a bit of height without being uncomfortable.
Accessories
Really, the star of this outfit is this adorable bucket bag! I simply can’t resist when I see an unusual piece like this. The two-tone faux suede in mustard shades is such a statement piece and I think it looks a great deal more expensive than it is! So fun! You can carry it with the twisted handle or use the chain for a cross-body look. (Sorry, I can’f find the link online and I just bought the bag!! Grrr.)
With a simple outfit like this, it’s always fun to play it up with some statement earrings. These black beaded earrings are by Sugarfix for Baublebar, so they are both affordable and stylish. You can see them here.
The Long Puffy Coat
I’m pulling out all the stops putting together this casual winter fashion outfit by adding my long puffy coat. (Sorry, I forgot to do the photo!!) Mine is an older coat from Lands End (they make fabulous down coats!!), that I have used throughout the years for any cold event occasion. Namely, for watching my son and his teams play football and LaCrosse games in cold stadiums! These days, I often “style” it on cold evenings walking my dogs!! Lol!
Do you already have a puffy coat? I think back to my time in Michigan winters wearing suede and leather jackets and being freezing cold all the time! Where were these coats then?! They are very much trending right now, and honestly, who cares if they’re not? They are super warm and totally practical. Here and here are longer options. And here and here are two shorter options. This is a good time to pick one up on sale!
The Benefits of Affordable Fashion
You can see how easily and inexpensively, it is to pull together a casual winter outfit. You may already have most of these pieces in your closet, too! Just add this super cute and colorful plaid sweater and this adorable faux suede bag and you will be styling!
I’m honored that you stopped by today and spent a little time with me by reading my blog.
