Here we are in the second week of summer so it’s time to pull out the lighter weight fabrics. Like chambray. It’s also time to flaunt our shorts–white legs or not! Today I’m styling a simple chambray shorts and sleeveless lace shell outfit that is the epitome of summer style.
Chambray fabric is a year-round fabric we all love. It’s a lighter weight version of denim with a softer feel and a unique sheen. While chambray is made of a plain weave construction, denim is designed with a heavier twill thread, which is what makes it strong and versatile. Regardless of the make-up of the fabric, chambray is a good choice for summer fashion.
Stylish shorts have definitely made a comeback this season. With the many styles–pleated, belted, paperbag, utility–and the numerous lengths–from 3″ to 12″–there is a style that will work for everybody. You may have to try several to find the perfect length and style for your body, but it will be worth it. You can then pick out the perfect fabric and pattern for your wardrobe.
The Chambray Shorts and Sleeveless Lace Shell Outfit
The range of prices one can pay for similar items can be wide. While it’s generally true that you get what you pay for, with all the designers weighing in with their versions of fashion items, that is no longer always the case. By shopping smart–looking for quality fabrics and construction–you can easily find a something similar that will fit your budget. And if you think it might be a one-season style, it makes a lot more sense to pick up a less expensive version.
To illustrate, I picked up these shorts at one of those stores where everything is one price–in this case, $15.99. I liked the pleated style, reminiscent of the 1940s that is popular right now. They are made pretty well, so I think I’ll be able to wear them for a couple of seasons, making them well worth it at this price!
By comparison, the lace shell top is a bit pricier, but still in the moderate price range. I’ve often written that one can’t have too many white tops, and this top proves that is true, once again! Lol! I love the lace yolk in the front, giving it a bit of a dressed-up look. I can wear for a day of sightseeing as well as with a long black skirt on our cruise vacation for a classic dinner look. It will look very professional under a blazer as well. The top is by Halogen and came in a recent Trunk Club. It comes in 5 pretty colors!
Since it’s a summer shorts outfit, a woven bag and sandals seemed the perfect touch. How many of you have this (or a similar) round woven bag? They went big-time popular last summer and continue to trend. There are lots of cute ones available with all kinds of fun touches! It’s such a cute bag for summer.
Once again, I’m sharing my favorite slide sandals in cognac. These are so perfect for summer! A combination of a flip flop but with a cute leather design on top. They come in several colors.
There’s something about adding a fedora to an outfit that can really add an element of cuteness! Especially on a bad hair day! You just have to commit to wearing the hat all day or risk the dreaded “hat hair” syndrome, right? Haha! This is an inexpensive one purchased on our cruise to Australia last winter. Here are two very inexpensive fedoras: light colored woven hat one with a white band, or blue fedora. Click on this link to see a white fedora with a light blue band that is very similar and super cute.
The final touch is earrings and a bracelet in navy blue. The beaded circle earrings are from Loft and are very inexpensive.
If you are looking for a simple yet classic summer look, try this chambray shorts and sleeveless lace shell outfit. You may already have the pieces needed in your closet! It’s a look that’s easy to put together yet always looks stylish.
