Remember L O N G ago when Nordstrom had their Anniversary Sale?! It was July, in fact. Which seems so long ago, doesn’t it? At that time, I picked up these super cute plaid trousers and styled them for a late summer look (see the post here) with a promise to style them later. So here I am!!
One important thing to think about when you purchase any item for your wardrobe is to consider how much wear you will be able to get from it. While there are some pieces that are absolutely seasonal, others can be easily accessorized or layered or just mixed with other pieces, like sweaters, jackets, vests, scarves, etc. to make them work for almost any season.
The weight of these trousers is perfect for our Southern California Climate. And I can also see them with tights underneath for a cooler climate, as these are a bit roomy. I remember doing that quite often in my younger years in Michigan or on trips to the mountains. Can you relate? The roominess is my favorite thing about them as they provide an alternative to the skinny style jeans we’ve been styling for a while.
The Checkered Plaid Trousers Late Summer Style
Here was the original outfit with white sneakers ( my very favorite sneakers by Ecco) from this post in August. A white tee was all they needed! By adding a white backpack, the summery look was complete. With our strange weather, I may have a chance to wear them summer style sometime over the “winter” months. You just never know!
Happily, these trousers are still available!! Isn’t it shocking? Or was I the only person in the whole world that actually liked them? Haha! Hard to say, but I do like them, very much. They come in petite, which makes them a true crop pant on me, instead of regular crops that turn into ankle pants for me!
The black on white plaid has a bit of orange running through it that tends to the yellow side, so mustard or yellow actually looks very good with them. My mustard yellow cross-body bag was the perfect accompaniment, especially with this striking patterned scarf in the same colors. I love to pattern mix with plaid–just find something in either a complimentary color or something that stands out. You can add some fun style either way!
Elbow-sleeve turtleneck sweater
Are you a turtleneck sweater person? I love them and have several. But every few years I have to refresh my turtles. This sweater is a nice layering piece: it has elbow length sleeves and is fitted just enough to be tucked or untucked. Guess where I got it? Yup–another Target piece by A New Day. Love it! It also comes in black and burgundy and you will not believe the price!
A black moto jacket makes any outfit “street style.” This leather one was from the Nordstrom Sale from 2017 and has already been well worth the price. Check out this super cool faux leather moto jacket under $100. A great gift, too!
Crossbody bag–in yellow and 4 more colors
Finally, black booties are such an essential for fall and winter!! I’ve been reading countless blogs about the best black booties. You just have to find a pair that is–number one–comfortable, and–two–stylish enough for your style. These suede booties are comfy, cute, and affordable–just my style!
Are you in for a pair of checkered plaid trousers? Or am I truly the only person that likes them? It’s a nice change from skinny jeans, with just a touch of Lauren Bacall–gotta love that!
Thanks for taking the time out of your day to stop by. It’s our final weekend to prep for Thanksgiving so I know you are all plenty busy. Do take a little time for yourself–to relax and enjoy the start to the holiday season.
Warmest regards,
I love your trousers! The scarf looks great with them. Thanks for linking up!

Yes July seems like ages ago! I can still remember the Nsale and being sad that the things I wanted sold out before the sale went public. #notacardmember :p These plaid pants are perfect piece this holiday season. Matter of fact, it’s perfect any time of the year. I love how you wore it with your moto jacket to add an edgy vibe to your look and that yellow cross body bag is of course such a nice pop of color! Happy weekend!
