Open front cardigans have been around for several years, so it’s fun to find one with a different pattern. Like this chevron open front cardigan.
While we all love the many options available in animal prints–leopard, zebra, and snakeskin prints–it’s nice to break out with a different pattern.
The open front cardigan is so versatile for almost any season. Cozy enough to keep you warm and comfortable, the open front allows you to show off a cute top and some shape. They are the ultimate layering piece.
The Chevron Open Front Cardigan Outfit
The Open Front Cardigan
The beauty of this cardigan type is how easy it is to style. Many of the open front styles feature a shawl collar, which means there’s is a bit of extra fabric sewn around the neck to keep you warm and comfortable. In this sweater, there is an extra layer to fold-over, creating a clean line at the neckline and down the front.
Open front cardigans come in lots of knits, and my personal preference is cotton or a cotton blend. That’s when I turn to Lands End. I’m a longtime Lands End shopper which you already know if you’ve been following me for a while. They have beautiful items in lots of fabrics but are well known for their cotton tees, blouses and sweaters. They even have amazing soft cotton sheets! You can see I’m a fan. (They are not sponsoring this post.)
This particular cardigan comes in many colors, including this chevron pattern. The mix of brown and cream chevron trimmed in black makes for many styling options. Available sizes for the Chevron Cardigan are limited, except in Tall Size, which might give you some extra length.
Here are some other beautiful open front cardigan styles from Lands End, and two others. (All LE are 30% off!):
I’m styling this outfit casually for an everyday look that you can wear now for a cool fall day and on into the winter with a warm coat. A basic tank top, jeans, loafers, and bag makes this casual outfit stylish.
Of course, you can easily style it for work or dress as well. It would look super stylish with a belt and skirt or over a simple black sheath dress.
The Outfit
A basic tank top under the sweater provides contrast so the pattern pops. You could easily style it with white or cream, brown or man other colors. Lands End makes very popular tank tops in soft cotton that are known for their ability to “keep straps under wraps.” This one comes in nine colors.
The ankle jeans by Paige are now available at Nordstrom Rack–meaning the price is right! I love the color and the not-too-tight fit.
You’ll see lots of belts styled this fall and winter and there’s a great selection to choose from. If you want to experiment with a new color or style, Target has some nice belts at decent prices, like this tortoiseshell brown belt I’m styling here.
Now for the shoes! Aren’t you excited that flats are hot this fall? Not that you all haven’t been wearing them forever, right? But there’s such a great selection of styles, patterns, and colors to choose from! Like these adorable calf-hair zebra print loafers! Another great find from Lands End!
The last piece is the small tote handbag. It’s a subtle cognac shade that goes with anything. Another great Target find. They have SO many super cute bags in all colors and styles, so it’s a great place to pick up a faux-leather bag you need to go with an outfit.
You can easily put together a cute casual outfit with jeans and a tank top as the base layer. Layer a patterned cardigan like this chevron open cardigan to give your look some pop and add some patterned loafers in similar shades for some subtle pattern mixing.
I wear cardigans all the time in the cooler months! I love the chevron print and the colors on this one. And those shoes are so fabulous!!!!

Gotta love animal print, right? I had to have these fun zebra print loafers! It’s great to find a different pattern in a cardigan–that goes with animal print!! Lol! Aren’t we all just a little bit over the top with leopard, etc.? Lol!
Thanks, Shelbee,

I know exactly what you mean about weather, Laura. You just never know any more! We are having cooler nights so I can get away with a cardigan at night at least.

I thought Lands End was a British brand . I love cardigans and because I am always cold, I wear them a lot. It is pretty cold here this week so I’ll bring them out of the closet again!
I agree! Cardigans are the best pieces in my closet and I reach for them all the time. Lands End now has a UK branch, I believe, but it was started in Chicago and its home base is in Wisconsin! The original owner was a sailor and that’s where the name came from. I’ve been buying their things for over 40 years–they have an amazing return policy.
Have a great week, Nancy!
