While it is definitely shorts weather, today I am styling a super cute drape cardigan and ruffle hem top outfit that could be worn with shorts, jeans or shorts, and even a skirt. On a recent trip to Nordstrom Rack, I ran across these pieces, by a popular designer, at a great price.
The drape cardigan and ruffle hem top outfit
The Cardigan
The drape cardigan has been around for several years now. They are so versatile and can go from a very casual look to a formal look so it’s easy to see why. I’ll bet you have one or more in your closet, right? This one appealed to me especially because of the color. I love olive-green in almost anything. It is almost a neutral as it goes with so many colors. And it’s fairly lightweight, so it can be worn on a cool summer evening–whenever that comes! Lol! It has been cooling off and I’m looking forward to temps in the 70’s!
You can see the cardigan and top here with white jeans and chunky heel mules for a bit of a dressier look. This outfit would be great for summer workwear by just changing out the jeans for slacks.
White jeans (both on sale!): with raw hem | finished hem
The ruffle hem top
Do you love florals as much as I do? Some are too busy but I love the mix of so many patterns available now. And this soft mix of the light olive background with pink, yellow and white floral is so pretty and feminine.
The high-low hem feature continues to trend. I guess that’s because it can be so flattering–especially since it covers up the backside!! The double row of ruffles makes this top especially fun.
I am still seeing white mules in the pre-fall catalogs. And you all KNOW you can not only wear white shoes after Labor Day, you can wear them all year-round! There are lots of cute boots, booties, and mules featured in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale coming out this week! You can see a similar pair here, and it is on sale.
The drape cardigan and ruffle hem top outfit with shorts
On our recent Santa Barbara trip, I took this drape cardigan and ruffle hem top outfit to wear with my white denim shorts. I am loving the look of a longer sweater with shorts. You can see so many adorable short outfits styled with kimonos, ruanas, and long cardigans. So cute!
Here is the outfit with shorts, taken from Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara on a cloudy day.
And yes, it was a bit windy, too!
Here I am all bundled up with my son, Max! We didn’t plan to match outfits–it just worked out that way! Lol!
And finally, a few shots of and from the wharf.
Santa Barbara is a beautiful town. If you get a chance to visit, be sure to do so. And wear a sweater, or better yet, a drape cardigan and ruffle hem top outfit!
I think I’ve been to Santa Barbara, so pretty!
Lovely outfit, that top and cardi is so versatile and both look good with shorts and jeans alike. Great look, Darlene. Hugs, x.
Hi Mary,
Santa Barbara is really a pretty place. I live in San Clemente, and Santa Barbara is like a bigger SC! Lol! Thanks for the nice comments, Mary. Best to you!
xx Darlene
Really cute outfit and I love the colors. I’ve been doing a lot of that green color this year. It’s a nice alternative once in a while to all the bright summer colors.
Hi Julie,
Yes, I totally agree! It still feels summery enough, right? Thanks for the nice comment. I’ll head over to your site and see what you’re styling today!
