Do you have a poncho in your closet? This style has come and gone many times through the years. So if you have one hang onto it! And whether or not this sweater style is trending, a black poncho outfit for winter outfit is always stylish–and warm.
The black poncho I’m sharing today is from an earlier fall post that I restyled to wear as a winter outfit. You can revisit that post here. You can easily tell it was fall as I am holding a pumpkin! Haha!
A black poncho is not only easy to style, but it’s also warm and cozy, too. That’s what makes it the perfect winter piece!
Black Poncho Outfit for Winter
This poncho has become my go-to sweater for cool weather. We often join friends for lunch or dinner and everyone likes to sit outside. Even though there are outdoor heaters, it can be a bit chilly. So, poncho to the rescue!
This poncho is from Loft and is sold out, but there are lots of cute options available. For extra warmth, you can’t beat a turtleneck, but you could always add a blanket scarf to a poncho without a turtleneck.
Knit Poncho Options
Here are some great options if you are looking for a poncho this winter. The first two are available in other colors, too. And they are all moderately priced at under $90.
While I have worn mine for with black jeans and boots for an all-black look, I also like to add a bit of color or style with this simple sweater. In this case, I’m styling it with my striped skinny jeans.
These jeans are so soft and comfy. They have a higher waist and some lycra in the fabric, which is so nice. The stripes are a dark blue, red and white so they will be fun to wear later in the spring with a nautical sweater or outfit!
The Base Layer
If it’s an especially cold evening, I actually wear my “32 Degree Heat” long-sleeve scoop neck tee underneath. These tops, called base layers, are great for keeping you warm. I’m guessing my friends in the north and UK know what I’m talking about! I get mine from Amazon and love them! They’re great for walking or running in the cold, and ladies and men wear them for skiing and snowboarding. Or wear them like I do, under a sweater or poncho for going to dinner in a cool restaurant! Haha!
I love to break up an all black sweater with some sparkle and this cute statement necklace does it well. Simple silver hoop earrings (clearly a favorite!) are the only other jewelry. Black suede booties create a clean line and let the fun stripes in the pants steal the show. A red clutch ties in with the red in the stripes of the jeans and adds a little pop.
You can see how easy it is to take a basic piece like this black poncho and restyle it for a stylish winter outfit. I’ll bet you already have some pieces in your closet you can use to create your own outfit! If you don’t yet have a base layer, like the 32 Degree Heat tee, give that a try for some needed warmth.
Thanks for taking a little time out of your busy day to spend some time with me talking about winter fashion.
Until next time…
