Have you tried a pair of faux leather leggings? Like you, I was extremely skeptical. Can you say, motor-cycle mama?! Haha! It just conjures up this image of a lady of a certain age trying to look like a biker!! Is that a gross generalization? It sure is.
I tried a pair last year that was a bit heavy and baggy and very warm to wear. I wrote about them in this post where you will see that I commented on how warm they were to wear. So I gave up on the idea. But when this pair came in a recent Trunk Club selection, I changed my mind! They are surprisingly soft and very flexible. And they feel great.
For today’s post, I’ve styled them two ways: an easy casual style and a street style look with a blazer. There are many other options for styling these pants as well.
The faux leather leggings outfit styled casually
The “safest” way to style any pair of leggings is with a tunic top. For the most part, I don’t wear leggings with a tucked in top as they do tend to show every lump and bump. And I doubt if I will wear these that way, but the fit of these faux leather leggings actually smooths out your figure in the waist and rear. And guess why? They are from Spanx, who of course specializes in shapers that smooth you out.
They are a bit pricey for leggings, but as one reviewer said, “they are worth every penny.” Of course, Spanx doesn’t offer petite lengths so I will most likely need to have these hemmed, but I think they are a keeper. For comfort alone, these are a good choice.
For a casual look, I styled them with a plaid popover tunic. I picked this one up on my trip to Michigan, and was actually able to find a link for you! This tunic is lighter weight (not flannel) and soft and silky which is a good choice for a warmer climate or with layers. You can see it here. Another inexpensive plaid tunic can be found here.
The ballet flats
Being on the short side, I tend to choose shoes with a bit of heel. It turns out they are more healthy for your feet, too! But check out these adorable leopard ballet flats! How cute are they?! These also came in my last Trunk Club selection. As further proof of the value of participating in the Trunk Club, I would never have picked up these shoes. But after getting them in my Trunk, I am sold!
These are the kind of shoes you can fold up and put into a little bag. These are perfect for travel (I will take them on my upcoming cruise and trip to Indonesia and Australia!), and for that time of day when you just can’t wear those heels a minute longer!! You know what I mean! This pair is a bit pricier, but they are made of leather with a rubber sole that cushions your feet. If you are looking for a comfy pair of ballet flats, you will love these!
These little wallet bags are so fun! You can put your cell phone and a lipstick and credit card to use when you’re on the run–say, headed into Starbucks for a coffee, anyone? Here and here are two inexpensive versions in lots of fun colors, including cognac.
The faux leather leggings street style
The beauty of these faux leather leggings is that they can be dressed up or down. To style them up a notch, I added my plaid menswear blazer. The plaid blazer is trending now just as this style does every fall and winter. It truly is a classic.
In an effort to create a street style look or even a “Parisian” look, I kept everything simple: black tank, black belt, black booties. To punch things up a bit, I added a burgundy handbag to pull out the subtle dark red in the plaid. (Oops–I just realized we neglected to take a picture with it!! You’ll have to visualize it! Haha!) This is a look you could wear many places, including a holiday party! Ooh, la la!
This final photo is my attempt to show you the subtle control top on the leggings. The waist is on the higher side so they really smooth out the tummy and waistline as you (hopefully!) can see in the photo.
So, what do you think? Are you ready to try a pair of faux leather leggings? If you choose this pair, you won’t be sorry, as you are choosing both flattering comfort and style–the perfect combo for fashion-lovers like you and me!
Give them a try and let me know what you think! And thanks for stopping by today. I am honored you chose to spend a little time with me talking about style.
Until next time…
