Every Woman’s Classic Striped Shirt

A striped shirt, especially in blue, is one of those wardrobe classics that we reach for time and again for polished style. Whether those stripes range from hairline thin to wide balanced lines, the versatility of this crisp style is unmatched, whether you wear yours tailored, oversized, untucked, half-tucked into jeans, or fully tucked into a pencil skirt for a professional look.

Stripes are a forever-staple in every woman’s wardrobe, whether your taste is classic, minimal, eclectic, feminine, or a combination of some or all of these.  Timeless iterations like the Breton stripe, nautical, and what we consider “French-girl” stripes abound every season, most often in the form of T-shirts, sweaters, cardigans, and dresses.

After a bit of searching, I found this superfine poplin shirt. It has a nice soft feel with a slightly tailored fit. It’s one of those go-to pieces for any day.

While I’m styling it today for a casual, “boyfriend” look, I will wear this under a blazer with either trousers or a pencil skirt as well. (You know–later on–when I actually have places to wear such things!)

The V-neck makes it current, but it does hang a little low. It’s not gaping open due to the slight slant in the design, but just a side note.

Add An Oversized Sweater

What do you think of the current trend toward the “boyfriend” sweater style? Some call it the grandpa cardigan (lol!), but I love the comfortable ease of this style. When I saw this chunky cardigan with the large buttons and the relaxed style, I was all in.

The loose fit makes you feel like kicking back, yet it can look stylish, too, with the right pieces. For sizing, I purchased my usual size small. You could size down if you want a more tailored fit. It also comes in gray, cactus green, and a pretty peach shade. Best of all? It has pockets!!

Medium Wash Jeans

While any shade of jeans from light wash to dark would work, I went with a medium wash in these super high-waisted, button-front “mom” jeans. The Mom jeans style seems to work well for my body shape as they are not too tight or loose. You first saw these jeans in the post, Style Camel Layers for a Tonal Look.

The Boots

These boots are my nod to the combat boot style currently trending. Now I do see myself in those boots back in my teens and 20s, but I’m just not into that look now. For me, that is. I do see other bloggers styling them and they look super cute! To each his own, of course!

Dolce Vita Lug Boots

Anyway, these are basically a Chelsea-style boot with a bit of a platform (works for me!) and a lug sole. They are just high enough to keep your feet and ankles warm and are super comfortable. Unlike some of these booties that sit higher on the ankle, they are flexible and easy to move it, so I like that as well. They also come in black for a little more combat-ish look or a cute leopard print.

Here’s a little inside info: this is the kind of “uniform” I wore a LOT in years past. After wearing professional outfits all week, I reverted quite often to jeans and a shirt on the weekends! I started this blog to make sure I wouldn’t fall into a rut and stick to one style! So now, this uniform look has become a more occasional choice: still loved, but worn when the mood strikes!
