I know that many of you work in an office and are looking for something to perk up your professional look for fall. Well, look no further! Today I am styling a nice look for fall in this plaid pants outfit. And since Sunday is the FINAL DAY OF THE #NSALE, I am sending this post out today. Just in case there is one more piece that you simply have to have! Better order quickly, if so! Lol!
This is that time of year when I start thinking about my wardrobe for fall. Like many of you, I worked for over 30 years at my career as an educator, and most of that time as an administrator. So, slacks, blazers, skirts, and dresses were in order almost every day. I used color to stand out, as the “look” was fairly conservative. I missed my teaching days when a pair of slacks with a cute top and a scarf were all I needed! Since I am still working part-time as an educational consultant, there are still times when I need professional attire. So when I saw this plaid pants outfit on sale at the #NSale, I picked up these pieces right away.
Plaid pants outfit
Are you on the look-out for some stylish plaid slim pants? Well, these are very nice. And the fabric is a lovely gray plaid with a bit of blue–a menswear pattern that is popular this fall. While a straight leg pant is always a nice look for work, these ankle pants can give you a bit of a different look.
The sweater is part of the sale and comes in several other colors as well. I choose this bright blue to bring out the blue stripe in the plaid. Details on the sweater are what makes it stand out: the scalloped sleeves and collar give it a nice touch. And it’s super soft!
How about a cocoon cardigan?
It would have to be pretty cold to wear the sweater and the cardigan, but surely that time will come either this fall or in the winter, right? Cardigan sweaters are always in style and can dress up a professional outfit and still look great for a casual look. This is another from the #NSale. What I like best is the thinner ribbing as I can wear it here in SoCal. The cocoon shape was a big hit for the Anniversary Sale and many of these sweaters sold out right away. Arrrrg. Some of them, like this one, are fairly inexpensive so you can always pick one up later, ANS. ANS=After Nordstrom Sale. But there are still some sizes available.
The best shoes for work wear, in my opinion, are kitten-heeled pumps. They never go out of style and are actually comfortable when you’re putting in a 10-hour day, which I often did.
Just add a blazer…
To really take the plaid pants outfit up a notch, change out the sweater for a blazer. I don’t know what it is about a blazer, but just by throwing it on over almost any outfit. gives you an instant power look. And we all need a little power, right? Especially at work.
Here is a cute one, on sale, by Madewell. I’ll bet you already have at least one black blazer in your closet already, right?
A quality bag always looks impressive, and one is almost required for the workplace. This Kate Spade Satchel turned was a great buy and the white or “cement” color goes with everything and can be styled year-round. It comes in a blush and black, too.
Whew. How did you make it through the #NSale? By buying lots of things on the very first day? Adding items over the course of the sale? Online or in-store? Well, I have to admit to all of those things. Except for a few mistakes, I am happy with most of my purchases. My goal was to try a couple new things, stock up on a basic or two, and only buy pieces to wear a number of ways. I think I accomplished that? How about you?
Be sure to check back in next week as I explore some new topics, and yes–finally!–share photos and shopping from my trip to Northern Michigan. Thanks for checking in!
