Are you mad about plaid? Every fall, we see plaid in everything! Especially in shirts. The typical plaid shirt is a regular long sleeve, button-down style, and I’ll bet you have a couple of those in your closet. But there are now many variations! Today I’m sharing two plaid different plaid shirts, just to get you started in changing up your typical plaid shirt outfits.
Both of these shirts came in recent Stitch Fix boxes. I’ve heard lots of gals say they tried Stitch Fix for a time but then didn’t feel their selection was matching their style. I generally am looking for things that do NOT match my typical style and I do tend to find one or two interesting items in almost every fix. The important thing is to explicitly describe what you are looking for in your fix. A friend of mine defined her style as “sophisticated casual” and she has been very happy with her fixes. If you haven’t tried a “fix” recently, it’s worth another look.
Plaid Shirt Outfit #1
This is a very typical plaid shirt outfit. The top, however, has a few variations. The fabric is a lighter weight cotton blend and not made of flannel. I love that! The sleeves can be worn long or tied up in a button tab. Another cute feature. The ivory background with red and blue plaid makes it very versatile.
I have to admit that I sent this back in spite of all the great features. My husband said it just looked like me, like things I already have in my closet. Sorry, but that isn’t what I’m looking for. So, back it went. It would actually look cute with a western-style outfit! You can find a similar version with more navy here.
The pants, by Liverpool, are exclusive to Stitch Fix and I decided to keep them. They are a nice change from fitted, colored jeans. Four-way stretch makes them super comfortable, and the straight leg style is definitely coming back into vogue. I also like the burgundy color as it will go with lots of things in my closet. (It’s not as red as it appears in these photos!)
Finally, there is just something that works when you pair plaid with chenille. This cocoon cardigan is from last year (you can see the post here)–a great Target find–and I love the large weave and softness of this sweater. You can see this year’s version in navy and three other colors here.
Plaid Shirt Outfit #2
This super soft plaid shirt was also part of my Fix. My first thought was, meh, so-so, but after trying it on I had second thoughts. The fabric is a very light flannel that is super soft–you know that’s a big plus in my book!! Since the colors are dark, I styled it with my white jeans, which are the perfect weight for fall!
The best feature of this shirt is the smocked hemming at the cuffs. I think this detail made the shirt!
The shirt was a bit shapeless on my shorter frame, so I added a silver-toned belt. This looked great with my grey booties and gave me a bit of shape.
The tote bag
For both fall outfits, I am styling them with this great tote from Target. It comes in several colors and the price is right! There is also a tiny bit smaller “tote handbag” version and you can see that one here. You can’t go wrong with these affordable bags to round out your outfits!
Get out the Vote
By the time you see my next post on Wednesday, the mid-term elections will be all but over. I hope that whatever happens, the dialog will improve. Let’s keep our fingers crossed! And encourage everyone we know to vote!
Thanks for stopping by today and have a wonderful day!
