A slip dress is a versatile workhorse in your wardrobe. Not only are these simple sheath-style dresses adorable all by themselves, but you can style them more ways than you can count. Today, I’m sharing just five easy ways to style a slip dress.
Another benefit to these simply styled dresses is their packability. They are perfect to fold into your suitcase for traveling. I wore mine on a cruise last summer, first casually with sandals, and then dressed up for “Formal Dinner Night.” You can’t beat that for versatility!
Five Easy Ways to Style a Slip Dress
With Your Pearls
Don’t get rid of those pearls! A classic set of pearls is a look that never goes “out of style”! I wore this long pair a lot for work to dress up a simple dress or even under a blazer, and every now and then I pull them out. Guess what? They always work! I love them with this simple coral slip dress.
They also happen to look great with these cute coral sandals from last year. Embellishments like these on sandals is a big trend this summer.
With a Belt
By adding a crochet belt and sandals, you create an entirely different look for summer. The coral plays nicely with the natural elements in the belt and bag.
With a Hat and Sandals
Honestly, you can add a fun hat to almost anything and shout, “Summer!” I styled this leopard slip dress with a hat and sandals for an easy, breezy summer outfit.
With a Jacket
For this look, I styled a leopard print slip dress with a short bolero jacket for a dressier look. This photo was taken on a cruise to the British Isles taken last summer. SO long ago and in a different time, right? You can see how just adding a simple jacket completely changes the look. (I’m linking a similar nylon bolero jacket here. These are great for travel or evening wear!)
For something really fun, add a leather jacket! The juxtaposition of elegant and edgy just works! And this allows you to wear a skimpy dress in cooler weather with the warmth of the leather jacket. A fellow blogger, Andrea of Living on Cloud Nine, shows just how “cool” this look is!! Is she cute, or what?!
With a Sweater
You can wear it open over your dress when the evening turns cool, or remove the belt and belt it over the sweater! How’s that for versatility!?
Styled with a cashmere sweater, the leopard print appears here as a cool maxi skirt. Another way to get more mileage out of a simple dress!
A slip dress all by itself makes a statement of its own. The simplicity makes the dress look elegant all on its own. Of course, for this style, a strapless bra is required. and the one I’ve linked is my favorite.
A beautiful shade of coral in your lipstick is another summer must-have. I’ve layered two pretty coral shades from Color My World’s Feeling Fresh Bundle.
The coral slip dress shown here is one of several colors and patterns available at Target. While the exact leopard slip dress I’m styling is no longer available, the Target version is a great substitute! (It’s the leopard dress Andrea is styling above!) Here are the colors and fabrics this slip dress comes in:
