There are SO many options for swimsuit cover-ups that it is hard to narrow it down to just a few. I’ve selected five adorable options that will go with most or all of your bathing suit colors. Many of them come in additional colors and patterns, too.
One of the best things for me is to choose cover-ups that will do dual-duty, especially for travel. There are lots of options that you can wear over your swimsuit that you can also wear for a casual lunch or dinner. This is an especially great option for a cruise.
Dresses as Swimsuit Cover-ups
One of my very favorite swimsuit cover-ups is the basic shift dress from Lands End. I have a couple of these that I wear as dresses, both at home and on vacation. They are super comfortable and easy to style.
This simple black and white shift does double duty as both a dress and a swimsuit cover-up. Wear it over your bathing suit by day, then add wedge sandals, a hat and cute straw bag and head out to dinner! Perfect for travel!
Mine is an older version, but there are similar ones that are on sale and will go quickly. as brands are clearing out their summer stock already to make way for fall and even winter!! Yikes–I’m just starting to enjoy summer! How about you? August is generally a very hot month for almost all of us, so swimsuits and cover-ups will still be in great demand!
This second cover-up dress matches a red floral swimsuit I picked up earlier this summer. Availability is very limited in sizes, but I wanted to illustrate just how versatile these cover-ups can be!
This one goes from the pool to an elegant dinner with ease! I’ll be taking it on our cruise for just that reason!
A tropical print makes you feel like you’re always on vacation!
Cover-up Kimonos and Caftans
A caftan-style cover-up in white and lace is such an elegant poolside look. This one can go over your swimsuit and still look a little sexy without having to bare all! Best of all, the price is unbeatable at under $20.
With a hat and sandals, you can wear this caftan all day!
The lace on the bodice and the fluted sleeves add a romantic look to this simple caftan style.
Palm leaf patterns are a summer favorite. You’ve seen this long kimono or duster before, in the post Palm Leaf Kimono Outfit for Summer. It not only looks great over pants and shorts, but you can wear it as a beach cover, too! I’ve styled it with an inexpensive suit from CupChe. They have lots of cute styles at inexpensive prices. While the suits won’t last for more than a season or two, the price is right for a trendy style.
This cute duster is made of a light chiffon fabric with a bell sleeve. It adds a touch of tropical elegance to any basic swimsuit. It looks great over my simple black two-piece.
For both of the long swimsuit cover-ups, I wore these mixed media earrings by SugarFix at Target. Honestly, you can pick up the cutest earrings, and these green patterned ones are so darn cute. I love the dramatic flair of these earrings, and they are much lighter than they look!
For another cute swimsuit cover-up, try this short version. It’s super fun with the all-over fruit pattern and the pompom trim!
It’s another very inexpensive beach cover that looks amazing over your basic black swimsuit (as I have here). It would look darling over any complementary solid suit like yellow, orange, or green. Try it with a neon bathing suit?
My Inner Fear
OK, here I have to confess. While many blogging friends are willing to show it all–in both swimsuits and underwear–I am still not quite able to do so. I have to admit that I am in total awe of their bravery and confidence! In these photos, you do see a glimpse of my legs and tummy, and yes they are both quite white and have some blotches. I think I’m most afraid of the reaction of my greatest critic: ME! Lol! While I’m quite comfortable wearing a swimsuit in public, taking photos of me wearing it sends chills up my spine. Darn. I guess I’m not quite as confident as I’d like to be! What do you think? Would you be willing?
