If you’ve been following the spring and summer fashion shows, you know that color and mixing prints are a big part of summer trends. Included in those trends is neon. Yes, neon! Neon fashion is having a moment this spring which is both a surprise and a fun flashback.
Neon fashion is a flashback to the ’80s. Any of you remember that time? Haha! Those of us of a certain age can easily conjure up some images of neon fashion during that time.
Background of Neon Fashion
So, where exactly did neon fashion come from? Neon was a big trend in the ’80s and recent fashion icons have started to wear these fluorescent shades of pink, yellow, green, orange or blue. Since designers goal is to choose something we no longer have in our closets and make it big again, neon has once again hit the runways. It’s already moving on from colorful gym gear and making its way into mainstream fashion. And that’s where bloggers come in..
Neon Fashion–Match Made in Seven’s Theme of the Month
Welcome to the second monthly edition of Match made in Seven! We are an international group of fashion bloggers who meet once a month. One of us chooses a theme in turn, and that can be anything. A book, music, a color, a movie. Then we each style an outfit based on that theme. The theme for this month is Neon Fashion. This month’s neon fashion theme was chosen by Emma of StyleSplash.
My Journey into Neon Fashion
I had to cast about in my closet to search for something in bright neon pink, yellow, green, orange or blue. I do have some bright colors ( as many of you know after following me for a while! Lol!), but nothing quite NEON.
Not wanting to spend a lot on something I might not wear again, I took a look at Shein. Shein is a great online clothing resource with very inexpensive items. So it’s a great go-to when you want to play around with a fashion trend before you jump in fully. That’s what I’ve done today.
One note of caution: Shein’s sizing is on the very small size. I normally wear a small but chose medium in these two tops. In all honesty, they are too tight for my liking and I will send them back and go for the larger size.
The Pink Neon Outfit
This neon pink is actually pretty cute. It has cute gold buttons along the right shoulder and along the sleeve. The skirt is from Target’s Wild Fable line that I picked up a few weeks ago. I never dreamed I’d be pairing it with a neon top, I must say! Lol! Black ankle boots completed the outfit.
The Lime Green Neon Outfit
When I saw this turtleneck top with a combination of neon lime AND snake print, I thought, Yay, a two-fer! As in two trends in one! I paired it with basic black jeans from Universal Thread at Target and a new shoe style I picked up in Napa that just happened to be lime green. These super fun shoes are made in Russia and come in lots of fun colors. My girlfriend Lorie and I picked up a couple of pairs each. It’s always fun to find new and unusual things. Sorry, I can’t find a link for you.
If you’re not quite ready to jump into the fluoro trend, but want to follow the trends this spring, try out simple ways to incorporate it into your everyday wardrobe. Start safe and small by choosing neon accessories like handbags, shoes, and earrings. You’ll still be trendy but not standing out like a flashbulb in a crowd!
