Camp shirts are back. Well, they probably never left, but with off shoulder, cold shoulder, bell and other sleeve details, they have taken a back seat. This spring, they are making a comeback and you can find them all over the place. Today I am styling a gingham camp shirt outfit that takes me back a decade or two!
The gingham camp shirt
I have to admit that this was MY look back in the day. A casual shirt with jeans and white sneakers and you are good to go! That is actually the whole point of my blog. To not get stuck in a rut in my semi-“retirement” and to branch out in my wardrobe selections to reflect my new lifestyle. And, hopefully, in the process, to inspire all of you by sharing recent finds and trying new looks. Some are hits and some are misses, to be sure, but it’s the journey, and it’s lots of fun! In a future post (or two), I’ll share some of the “secrets” or not-so-secret aspects of blogging. It is WAY more complicated and time-consuming than I ever dreamed. But it is such a wonderful way to learn new things and to follow other bloggers who are sharing their journey. So, more about that later… For now, the plaid camp shirt!
This shirt is from the “A New Day” line at Target. If you haven’t checked out this line, head over to Target and take a look. There are SO many cute pieces in this line and their others, too, including Mossimo, Univeral Thread, WhoWhatWear. Honestly, the biggest problem is restraining yourself as the prices are amazing and so are so many of the fashion items! This gingham camp shirt called to me. Aren’t we all loving gingham fabric this season? The fabric is soft and the fit is great.
To update this style, you can see that there is a high-low effect, with the longer length in back. This detail keeps the shirt from becoming too dated.
Don’t you just love something as simple as this shirt? Add some jeans and a few other items, and you are ready! Of course, it’s all in the details, so read on to see how to finish the outfit.
The outfit
In order to keep the look current, you do need to add updated details. These frayed hem jeans are totally on trend. And so are the white sneakers. White sneakers are a fashion essential this season! Isn’t that good news?!!
By adding a fun tote bag, you can also keep the look fresh. I’ve styled this bag before (see it here), and am sorry to say that it sold out very quickly. But any cute straw tote will work and there are SO many cute ones out there. A couple of cute ones–with pompoms!–I’ve found for you are here and here.
Adding the right accessories helps, too. Large hoop earrings are hot for summer. Add a simple choker necklace and bracelet and your look is complete.
Finally, if your weather is as crazy as ours, you may need a little something for the chill. Nothing beats a cardigan sweater, and you can never have too many of this classic piece. Mine is from Target and I have them in several colors. They are great for air-conditioned movie theatres, shopping malls, and cool evenings.
If you don’t already have an old camp shirt in your closet, like this gingham camp shirt, take a look at some of the styles in stores now. This is a versatile shirt that you can wear for work or play, so give it a look!
Until next time, Happy Hump Day!
