The graphic tee and sweatshirt trend has been going on for a few years now and is still going strong. Ditto for the pleated skirt trend–it’s no longer good only as a school uniform!
I’ve written several posts including pleated skirts so I am clearly on board! Since I was a public school girl, I never had to wear a pleated skirt uniform so now I’m all in! Haha! Here are just a few of those pleated skirt outfits.
Women’s Vital Voice
This sweatshirt, from Target, is clearly meant to appeal to the women in our society. We are at a pivotal point in helping to decide the next election with so many women in both parties running for office.
I just finished an intriguing book about Alva Smith, who married into the extremely rich and powerful Vanderbilt family of New York to save her own from becoming destitute. It’s a fictional account based on the real Alva Vanderbilt that highlights the role of women in the late 1800’s. We follow Alva as she defies convention to divorce her ridiculously wealthy husband (and with that, his family) to find happiness. She eventually becomes a major force in the women’s suffrage movement and was one of the few who sought rights for women of color.
It was a timely choice for me and a reminder that we have come so far and yet have far to go. The book, titled The Well Behaved Woman: A Novel of the Vanderbilts, is by Terese Anne Fowler. You can check it out here or by clicking on the image to the right. It’s worth a read!
Let’s hope that we increase the number of women in government so that our voices can be heard, as we are indeed a vital voice.
Now, about that outfit!
Graphic Sweatshirt and pleated skirt outfit
As I said, the sweatshirt is from Target. Besides the message, I love the combination of pink and red, a color combination that has come around in the last few years. This type of outfit I probably wouldn’t have worn in my more conservative-dressing past: a pleated skirt with a sweatshirt?!! Oh, no! But in my quest to try new and different things, I wanted to give this a try. And guess what? I do like it!!
There are many amazing ways to style a pleated skirt of any length. Take a look at my Pinterest Board–Pleated Skirts—for more ideas.
I know this graphic sweatshirt and pleated skirt combo would fully epitomize the “street style” look if I added sneakers. But I just couldn’t do it! The fuller, midi length skirt on my short frame really make me look stumpy!! Not a look I am going for! But on taller gals, like some of you–go for it!
All the pieces in this outfit are from Target. I picked the red pleated skirt up a few weeks ago when I recognized the potential for this skirt for the holidays! I will be styling it again a couple of different ways, so stay tuned.
The graphic sweatshirt is also from Target. It comes in Misses and Plus sizes. They show the graphic sweatshirt styled outside the skirt, but since I need more definition at the waistline, I decided to tuck it in. There are lots of tucked as well as untucked examples on Pinterest in my link above.
The tassel earrings are from the Sugar Fix line, a line from Baublebar at Target. They have lots of very cute, very inexpensive jewelry options. The red is out of stock but here is the pink version.
Remember to get out the vote and have your voices heard! And thanks, strong women, for taking the time to stop by my blog.
