Today’s post features another episode of Shopping My Closet. I’m sharing a new take on how to dress up your camo pants outfit. With overcast skies and dreary damp weather, long pants are required. But that doesn’t mean you have to dress boring, right? Pull out those old camo pants and dress them up for a whole new outfit!
I spotted an outfit similar to this one on Pinterest. I recently saw a post by the lovely Kellyann of This Blonde’s Shopping Bag where she shared her spin of a favorite Pinterest pin! How fun! Pinterest can be such an inspiration. If you know you have plenty of clothes but lack inspiration for putting them together in new ways, do some searching on Pinterest. There is so much there to copy and tweak!
How to Dress Up Your Camo Pants Outfit
The scene for this camo pants post is along the shore in San Clemente. We had an hour or two of sunshine breaking through the clouds so headed to the coast. The photos were taken along our lovely beach trail (perfect for a 4-mile walk!) at a spot not far from the iconic pier.
These basic camo pants have been in my closet for at least a year. I’m guessing most of you already have a pair or two hanging around. In the past, they tended to be something I pulled out when I wanted a totally casual look–usually with a tee and sneakers. They appeared in the post Kicking Back in a Camo Pants Outfit. See? The title says it all.
After being inspired by a pin on Pinterest, I experimented with a way to dress up these seemingly casual pants. These are my favorite. They have a high waist and a little slit at the ankle. Best of all, they are still available! Check out these Camo Ankle Pants.
Now, you can take any white top and do a front tuck to achieve a similar look. Or try this super cute twist-front top–a very inexpensive top from Amazon! I may have to pick one of these up. Or this Madewell tie-front white shirt–beautiful. Can you ever truly have TOO MANY white tops?
The Accessories
By changing your shoe, you can change the look and feel of an outfit. Just by adding these wedge sandals, you elevate the outfit. (Get it–elevate? Yes, I’m a little punchy tonight!) These moderately priced sandals from Steve Madden are surprisingly comfortable. I’ve worn them all day for shopping and lunch and they didn’t bother me a bit. For me, that’s not the usual.
Adding statement jewelry, like these chandelier earrings, mixed-metal necklace, and hammered cuff bracelet can also dress up an otherwise casual look. These pieces are all from Target.
Now, for the bag. I’ve been preparing for our upcoming cruise (are you tired of hearing about it already? Lol!), and searching for a bag. On our last trip, I bought and carried a backpack but I found it too cumbersome to have to dig in it when we were sightseeing. Reaching in for my wallet (shopping money!), my jacket, phone, or lipstick was just too big a pain.
So, I’ve been looking for a travel shoulder bag in just the right size. Other criteria included side pockets for water bottles, outside compartment, RFID wallet inside, and big enough to hold my camera, a few toiletries and my raincoat in a pouch. (More about that in a later post.) This one checks all the boxes. It comes in 18 colors. I chose this pewter color as it will go with so many things. Like these camo pants!

Hi Darlene!
I have a pair of camos I bought from Loft this year. I love Wit and Wisdom as they are soft, but boo hoo on the length for me,! some are too short of an inseam. I love the style on you and with the white shirt it looks so sharp for summer. You look great! I love the long necklace with this look and espadrilles. Its just too darn hot here right now, as I have to stick to dresses or shorts.
thanks for linking!

Jess, I’ve been jealous of your heat through the month of June! But now it’s finally clearing up and we are having summer days in the 70s. Woohoo! When it’s hot, like August and September, I’ll be opting for casually dresses and shorts, too. I’d love to have your problem of pants being too short! Wit and Wisdom are one of the few that make a petite with the perfect leg for short legs like mine!
Enjoy your summer weather, my friend, and thanks for the comment.

I love all your camo looks! Camo is something that always looks so fun on other people…but I can never quite pull the trigger on anything! But you make it look so effortless 🙂

I love this outfit! I am still on the lookout for an inexpensive pair of camo pants and kind of hoping to find a pair while thrifting. I am glad you found a bag you like: it is important while traveling!

Hi, Mireille, I hope your week is off to a good start! You do so much traveling, so you know what I mean about the right bag to carry. Good luck thrifting!

Thanks, I love it! Will be adding to my Amazon order 🙂
Great! I think you’ll like it. I bought it in pewter, which is a silvery greenish shade. I think it will go with my grey sneakers and lots of other colors. Let me know what you think!

I have a pair of camo pants and I honestly have not tried styling them with a white top yet, but I really love this look! Thank you for the inspo! And that bag, tho!

Love the travel tote. Do you have a link for it?
Oops, sorry, Diane! And it actually comes in 18 colors!! I’ve added the link to the post. Thanks for calling it to my attention! I think it will be a great bag for our trip.

You must be living in a fabulous area as your photos have always these holiday vibes feeling! I have always loved camo and since a few months I also have camo trousers. Just like yours and I also love to style it a bit dressed! I would wear this look immediately!
Thanks, Nancy. You would look amazing! I’ll watch for that. Yes, it’s very pretty here along the coast in San Clemente and temps are moderate so it’s rarely too hot or too cold. So, we’re cruising the British Isles instead!! Haha!
