Today I’m sharing an idea for styling a blazer for summer. We all know and love blazers but tend to think they are a fall through spring piece. But they look great in the summer months, too! The trick lies in the other pieces you style as well as the accessories.
If your spring weather is as uncertain as mine, you find yourself moving between shorts and tees one day, and jeans and sweatshirts the next. Sound familiar? So adding a closet staple, like a blazer, to your jeans outfit provides a bit of warmth along with a touch of style.
How I Style a Blazer for Summer
Of course, you want to pick a jacket with a lighter-weight fabric. This blazer is made of cotton; another good choice would be a linen jacket. In some cases, you could even get away with a fine-weave wool fabric in your blazer, in a summer weight or year-round fabric. This is especially good if you work in an air-conditioned space. (And we will be returning to those in good time, we hope.)
I’m showing a blazer outfit here with white and indigo denim, but you could easily swap out the jeans for white pants or chinos or whatever color matches your blazer.
Striped Blazer and Basic Jeans
This is a classic way to style a blazer with jeans in warmer weather: dark fitted jeans, striped blazer, white top, wedge heels, woven bag. It’s a combination that always works and can be worn for so many occasions.
The belt is what sets this look apart. Here I’ve added a leopard-print calf-hair belt, but you could add any color that complements your jacket. A contrasting belt in red or a bright green or yellow would add a pop of color that would look amazing.
To keep the look fresh for summer, these platform sandals by Marc Fisher-popular last year–are still trending. (Similar platform sandals here–on sale!) Natural fabrics and accessories are a big trend right now and always look good in the spring and summer.
Striped Blazer and White Jeans
For this look, my best-fitting white jeans serve as the backdrop for the striped blazer. But this outfit would be super boring if the top underneath was white. So, the pop of color here comes from the top-a patterned sleeveless tank from Lands End. The contrasting pattern makes the look more interesting, too. A solid pop of color would also work.
A pair of pumps can really up the ante on a blazer and jeans outfit as well. These basic neutral pumps elevate the look in both height and style.
All of these pieces have been in my closet for quite some time. The striped blazer actually has matching pants that I wore to the office in the spring and summer.

Do you have one or more old blazers in your closet? My advice on blazers is to hang on to them, even if you don’t see yourself wearing them all the time. They can be reworked and restyled in so many ways throughout the seasons. The best thing? Blazers never go out of style. The cut or fit may change over time, but they always come back. Even in your blazer seems dated, styled with the right pieces and some fabulous accessories can make your blazer outfit both unique and new. What are YOUR ideas for how to style a blazer for summer?
