There are SO many ways to style a plaid shirt, and this camp shirt makes it easy. So today I am sharing how to style a plaid shirt outfit for summer and fall. With the reds and blues on a white background, it goes with denim beautifully, can be dressed up or down, and layered for the cooler weather. I first styled this gingham camp shirt back in May in this post –SO long ago already!! Lol! Hasn’t this summer just flown by? Kids are getting ready to start school in many districts, and the “Back-to-School” sales are in full swing. This is that time of year when I start to miss being an educator. The start of a new school year was always exciting and full of possibility!
My story
For the month I August, I will not be buying any new clothes. WHAT??!!! I know, it’s totally shocking!! I am stocked up for the transition to fall (thank you, #NSale), and already had plenty of summer pieces. Not to mention, with our new weather patterns, I strongly suspect we will continue to have a lot of heat this fall. A fellow blogger referred to such a hiatus as a “shopping diet” which describes how I am feeling right now. Instead, I will share how I restyle the many wardrobe pieces in my closet and share my musings about that and other topics. In this post, I am restyling a number of things with a pair of linen blend pants that I just love!
The gingham plaid shirt is no longer available in these colors, but there is a darling green plaid. Check it out here!

These pants are a best seller from Old Navy. They are another version of the pixie pants style that I tried recently. (See this post, with the red pixie pants!) They are a nice change from heavy jeans but the chambray color makes them easy to style with most things in your closet. To be honest, I got a beautiful pair of linen-blend pants in my last Trunk Club selection, but they were so pricey, I just couldn’t justify purchasing them. These are an excellent substitution. Especially for the price.
To keep the look summery, or suitable for late summer or early fall, I added some tan suede sandals. The bit of wedge is just enough to elongate the leg and add a little height. I need both of those things! Haha!
Straw bags continue to trend and you can style yours far into the fall. There are SO many great bags like this still available. Here is a cute round straw tote. Bright tassel earrings give this outfit some fun!

To style a plaid shirt outfit for summer or fall, just add a denim jacket!! Easy, right? If you don’t yet have one (I doubt that is true of any of you!!), or need to refresh yours, I continue to like this one best. And the price is right!
Booties are such a great look for fall and I am loving these with the cutout back. The strap is a simple velcro one so the fit is easy. A stacked heel, even in a lower height, is a great look on anyone and still comfortable to wear.
This cute bag is by Isabelle, which my girlfriend and I found in Charlevoix, Michigan. Before going boating, we hit the shops!! Well, actually, both before and after! Haha! The wooden handle makes it stand out and the red-orange color goes either way. I can’t find this particular one for you, but here is a link to Isabelle bags with some very cute options at affordable prices.
Despite my vow to go on a “shopping diet” I still have some new things to share with you from my Michigan trip, so there is still some “new” to come!
Thanks for joining me on this journey. If there are any topics you would like included in future posts, I would love to hear from you!
Nice look, thanks for sharing on #chicandstylish Jacqui Mummabstylish
Thanks, Jacqui. And thanks for sponsoring the Link Up. A bit of work, I imagine.

Changing out the accessories really takes your shirt into a fall look. The red accents are so nice.
Hi, Kim,
Thanks so much! Accessories really do make the outfit, don’t they? I will be heading over to your blog, too, and can’t wait to see your style!

Rocking the denim on denim look for the fall!!!! I love these transition outfits and I think you did a bang on job. Good luck with the no shopping August.
Hi Bojana,
I love your name!! Thanks, my friend. Denim on denim can be a great look, done right. I think the contrasting plaid top helped. The “no shopping” has been a challenge, believe me! But I do have some pieces I haven’t shared yet that I will be styling, so hopefully, this month won’t be a wash! Thanks for commenting!

Love that plaid top and those booties are too cute. Good for you making a resolve not to buy during August. I’m weak…LOL
Haha! I know! It’ll be a challenge for sure, Lisa! Time will tell if I can really do it! I’ll live vicariously through your new styles!! Thanks for the comment.

That plaid shirt looks cute on you. I have a few plaid shirts, but keep thinking I look a little frumpy in them. I always like them on other people though. Hey, I host a link up party every Wed, so if you’re interested, you’re welcome to stop by and link your posts. http://www.thismainline.com
Hi Julie,
Thanks so much for letting me know! I’ll add it to my page and hop over there tomorrow! Thanks for the nice comment.
