Polka dot prints are one of those patterns that never seem to go out of style. And they are so fun and easy to work with. While there are SO many ways to style this pattern, I’m showing one of the ways you can style a polka dot midi skirt today as you transition to spring fashion.
The polka dot pattern is definitely on a roll and trending this season. In reality, though, polka dots are a hot fashion item every spring. Don’t you agree?
Can you tell I’m on a skirt roll? Lol! I have always been fond of skirts. How about you? Do you find them as versatile as I do?
To get the most out of your wardrobe, choose pieces that can transition from season to season, like this polka dot midi skirt. A midi skirt is one of those items you can style for summer, fall, winter, and spring. Just choose pieces to pair it with that work for that season. For example, add a chunky sweater for now and a white top later on.
Today, I’m sharing an idea for styling a polka dot midi skirt for this transitional season.
The Polka Dot Midi Skirt Outfit
A midi skirt is perfect for year-round wear. This particular skirt has some added color with the dark polka dots on the bright blue background. As it’s not too heavy, you can wear tights in the winter for warmth and still be able to style it in the spring.
This skirt is one of those affordable pieces that you can pick up and wear with blouses, sweaters, boots, sandals, and whatever else you already have in your closet. You can go solid with your partner pieces, as I have here, or try a smaller polka dot or stripe pattern if you like to pattern mix.
For the still cool February weather, and obviously VERY windy day, try your polka dot skirt with a chunky sweater or turtleneck.
Since the skirt is definitely the focus of this outfit, I’ve added a plain black turtleneck and black over-the-knee boots. A statement necklace helps break up the solid black of the sweater. The skirt would also look great with a white sweater or even a poncho, like the black one I styled in the post Easy to Style Black Poncho Outfit for Winter.
The Accessories
I mentioned the OTK boots. These are great for keeping your legs warm on a cold, windy day like this one. A black shoulder or cross body bag is a great staple you can use year-round. This leather one is a Nordstrom brand and is beautifully made for the price. Once again, a leather moto jacket is worth its weight in gold!
Kendra Scott Jewelry | Gold Disc Earrings | Pendant Slider Necklace
Finally, the gold jewelry makes a bold statement on a plain black background. This necklace and earrings are from Kendra Scott. They were a Valentine’s Day gift from my husband this year and I just love them.
The Polka Dot Midi Skirt for Spring
Ah! Spring. It’ll be here before you know it, so purchase any new items for your wardrobe with that in mind.
This fun skirt will be great later on when the weather warms up. In anticipation of that, you can style it with a tie-front top or a black or white tee in your closet. I’ll be styling it later on when we aren’t experiencing gale force winds! Lol!
If you’ve already got a cute midi skirt in your closet, style it now for a great winter look! If not, try this super cute polka dot version and it’ll be right on trend to wear now and on into the spring.
I love all black outfits with a piece taking center stage! The blue polka dot skirt is fabulus on you, love the cobalt!!

Thanks, Jess. Polka dots are always fun and I loved the cobalt, too! It’s kind of an anyone color. A warm black sweater and boots were necessary with the chilly temps we’ve had–I had originally planned to share it two ways, one for winter and one for spring, but the weather did not cooperate! Ah, the fun of blogging, right?
Thanks for the nice comment,
xx Darlene
This is darling! I love polka dots all year round, but yes, they seem especially suited to the freshness of spring!
Those boots are gorgeous and I love the whimsical polka dot skirt paired with the edgier moto jacket.
Spring will be here…….eventually 🙂

Hi, Bettye,
I sure hope so–I’m totally ready for spring! We’ve had a very cool January and February with even more rain on the way! Yikes! I hope you got moved successfully–that is so stressful.
The OTK boots turned out to be very useful. Honestly, I was skeptical at first. A new look for me. Nice description of the skirt as whimsical, too.
Now, I have to go work on my theme for Match Made in Seven. Our partners are definitely challenging us, aren’t they? Haha!
