Does it feel like fall where you are? While it’s a bit overcast here, the temps are still in the 70’s, so it’s not quite time for heavy cardigans and boots. Actually, that look will probably not be wearable until November. But you never know, right? Meantime, to get into a fall state of mind, why not add a silk scarf to your outfit? You can have a touch of fall without too much warmth.
Scarves have long been a part of any fashionable woman’s wardrobe. Remember Jackie Kennedy? And Princess Grace? (Probably just some of you of a certain age!) Both of them were fashion icons and made wearing scarves so chic. So, if you want to add a bit of flair to your fall style, read on…
The silk scarf
There are so many pretty scarves to be had. And you don’t have to spend a lot to add some great style. Square scarves or bandana style are really easy to add to the simplest outfit. This is the scarf that is sometimes described as a bandana or cowboy scarf, and it’s easy to style. Just take a simple outfit, like this one–just great fitting jeans and a tee. Look what happens when you add a scarf?
This dark olive-green silk fabric has adorable fall elements in the pattern in shades of brown, rust, navy and burgundy so it can stand out on almost any outfit and add a touch of fall.
I wanted to showcase the fringed hem on this scarf, so I styled it loosely with a simple knot off to the side. The silk fabric has a lovely soft feel and lays nicely against your neck. And yes, the darn coastal breeze was at it again! Can you say wild hairdo?!
The silk scarf is by Treasure and Bond and not overly expensive. It also comes in a lovely burgundy with the same feather pattern in the silk. And, best of all, when you buy Treasure & Bond, Nordstrom will donate 2.5% of net sales to organizations that work to empower youth. How cool is that?
The basic outfit
I have to share this latest find with you! This tee from Madewell is under $15. The style is relaxed and a bit boxy so they are super comfortable. I love a white crewneck tee and this one is my new favorite! And, of course, a tee is a perfect layering piece for a warm fall day and a cool night. Just add a jacket, cardigan or kimono that goes with the scarf. And it is definitely OK to wear a different pattern against the feather pattern in the scarf. Just make sure the colors complement each other!
A well-fitting pair of jeans is a fall essential. Well, actually a winter essential, spring, and even summer. In any case, a dark wash jean looks especially good with the jewel colors of fall, and these are my favorites. They are a bit pricey, but the higher waist and not overly skinny style is super comfortable and super stylish.
Another essential for fall is a fun pair of booties. I’ll be you already have a pair or two in your closet, right? But if not, you might like something like these. The ankle is fastened with a velcro fastener which allows you to fit them to your ankles and your comfort style. I love that. Comfort is key in shoes for me.
A little bit of nice from Walking Cradles
Many of you have commented on the olive booties I’ve been styling lately. (You can read about them in this post.) I absolutely love them! They are from Walking Cradles. While I do not get anything from them, I wanted to share how great they with all of you. In return, I got a lovely note from one of their designers, Jamie, who read my post and told me how much she liked what I had to say. How nice is that? I always appreciate when folks read the whole post and comment, as sometimes it can feel like you are writing in a vacuum! Anyway, she took the time to send me these darling gifts, including her favorite shade of red nail polish! It was very sweet of her and much appreciated by me!
In this photo, I am styling the cute white sunglasses! Aren’t they fun?!
So, if you want to dress for fall but the weather isn’t cooperating, or you don’t want to spend a lot (and who does?), find a pretty silk scarf with vibrant fall colors and style it with your favorite jeans and tee. You will be fall ready!
