Even though it’s still summer, it might be time to start thinking about picking up pieces that can transition to fall. Like this ivory blazer. Just by adding a piece like a blazer to any basic look, like this shorts outfit, you can “style it up.”
A long time ago I picked up a black boyfriend blazer. The “boyfriend” style is so easy to wear. It’s a bit oversized in a longer length. It’s the kind of blazer that goes well with almost anything including shorts and jeans.
Well, that particular jacket ran its course, and since it was a larger size–from my slightly heavier days!–I eventually got rid of it. I have been looking for a jacket to replace it for some time and happened upon this one the ONE TIME I went into Nordstrom recently.
I was basically there to check out some underthings. The stock in everything was really low, understandable considering the slowdown from the virus. But lots of things were on sale, including this blazer. And here’s a real shocker: it’s still available!! Woohoo! Read on for more details.
How to Style Up a Shorts Outfit
The Shorts Outfit
Since it’s still summer, long pants just will not work. Solution? A pastel pair of shorts. These are older chino shorts in pale pink but with this combo, any color shorts would work. Navy would look very nice, don’t you think? Or a printed pair of paperbag waist shorts. Or even your favorite denim cut-offs!
Let me say, once again, to wear shorts if you want to!! My legs are not perfect in so many ways. They have lots of sun damage that I am stuck with forever and let’s just say they are not as firm as they once were. But they are MY legs, and I am wearing them!! So, you do the same, my friends!
The top is a ribbed tank top by Prologue at Target. It’s one of my favorite tank tops! And the price is right.
The slouchy style of this jacket is one I love. It’s by Topshop and also comes in black which I have also ordered. It’s available in three colors–at 50% off, you can’t beat it! The description says it runs large and to size down, but I bought it in my regular size 6.
It will make a great transition piece! For me, it’s a piece I can wear year-round. I can see it with a turtleneck in the winter!
Accessories Make the Look
Once again I am styling this adorable imitation pearl crossbody bag. It adds a subtle elegance to the look! A simple chain necklace and two bracelets also add to the outfit.
Pink croc block-heeled sandals are super stable and comfortable. They are on sale for $40 and come in four colors. I find the pink to be very versatile as the blush color makes a nice neutral.
I styled a co-ords (two matching pieces) shorts outfit last summer and really love the look! You can check it out at How to Style a Co-ords Short Outfit.
As you begin to think about fall, and hoping for a return to “normal”–whatever that might be–consider adding a boyfriend blazer to your wardrobe. It can serve now as the finishing touch to a shorts outfit and style it up for almost any end-of-summer event you might be attending.
