Pink is a hot color this spring! Have you noticed how often it occurs in ads for a wide variety of industries: fashion, home decor, nails and even hair color! While I’m not quite ready for pink hair (I’m not against it, mind you!), I have been interested in playing with it a bit. Without a doubt, it is already one of the major colors in my wardrobe. Is that true for you? Pink is flattering to every skin tone and is often suggested as a paint color for your bedroom or bath–places where might look in the mirror and want to feel good about yourself! Lol! For many of us, especially those of us who live in homes with husbands and sons, it has been considered a no-no. But I know things are changing when my twenty-something son says he is looking a pink dress shirt! So, recently at the new Home Goods in my town (another very dangerous place for shoppers!), I started looking at pink items and after walking around a bit had a plan for adding more pink into my life! Today’s post isn’t about fashion, then. Instead, I am sharing how to update a room with pink home decor.
The “old” decor
My “old” decor was actually somewhat new a year ago. That’s when we removed our old carpet and added new floors throughout the house. You can read my post here: The big mess: my home flooring project. At that time, I purchased a beautiful new blue rug for the living room and added a few white chatzkeys. (It is from a Yiddish word also spelled tchotshie or chotchkie.)

My main colors were tan and blue as I have a bit of a coastal theme going on. It was a nice, soothing look and the new floors made everything look new again. But, in the last few months, it became clear to me that it needed a little something.
As I looked at I decided to play off some of the many colors of flowers in our painting behind the sofa
So, here it is. Not bad, right? Clean and crisp with the blue against the neutral tan. But it definitely needed a refresher.
The pink home decor
So, how do you refresh your decor? The absolute easiest way to introduce a new color like pink into a room is with throw pillows. After spotting some dark hot pink versions, I started to get excited. I guess it doesn’t take much for me, right? Haha! Do you get excited about things like this? I went round and round the store with the pillows in my cart to see what other great finds there might be. I quickly came across a lovely throw in a similar shade and liked the way the textures worked together. So, into the cart it went. The last find was a faux flower in a pot that was another version of the dark pink shade. In it went.
Next, I perused the room. it was clear I needed additional pieces to tie things together and make the color pop. I was thinking maybe colorful faux flowers for the coffee table, and something on the entry table to carry out the effect. So, off to Michael’s I went (another dangerous spot!) ending up with some faux flowers to cut up and distribute around the room.
Once I got everything together, it was time to strategize and experiment. To the left are the basic pieces I bought: pillows, a throw, a faux floral arrangement in a pot, and faux flowers in various shades of the pink.

You can see there really isn’t much in the way of numbers of items, but the impact of just a few pieces can make a big difference. After playing around for a bit, here is the final product–at least for now!
What do you think? I’m so pleased with the result. We have good friends coming to dinner on Sunday and I will be able to show off my new look!
But, how does one go about refreshing a room?
Steps to take to add a little pink home decor
So, are YOU ready to add a little pink home decor to your life? Or really any color that will make your room pop with the addition of just a few accessories. Here are the steps to follow:
- Take a candid look at your room decor. Do your pieces pop? What is missing? What color might make a difference in brightening up or refreshing your room?
- With that color in mind, head to your favorite home decor shop and wander around looking for anything in that color or color family. Look for interesting textures to mix and match.
- Start with one thing you really love–a pillow, a throw, a picture, a chatzkey. Step outside the box and choose something you’ve never tried before!
- Take everything home and start experimenting!
- If needed, add some plants or flowers or other catchy pieces to tie it all together.
- Enjoy your fresh new look!
The most important thing is that you don’t have to spend a lot to change the look and feel of a room. You can find items at even the most inexpensive stores. By not spending too much, you can afford to change things up more frequently to keep your rooms interesting. Try it–it’s freeing and fun!

Great advice and the pop of pink with the navy is beautiful. I really love that rug. I recently got new sofas and went with a light neutral so I could easily change things up. Thanks for linking up for Fabulous Friday! XO
Thanks so much, Lisa! I would love to see what you come up, too! Thanks for hosting Fabulous Friday. I love to see what everyone is wearing and doing.
