They’re back. Remember some time ago when EVERYTHING was cropped–from tees to sweaters. It was kind of frustrating for ladies who didn’t like that style. Well, they’re back. And cropped sweaters have been BIG in 2021! You’ll see them everywhere for fall fashion.
While I wasn’t a fan then, I’ve come around. I actually like the boxiness of many of these styles, especially in tees. The beauty of cropped pieces now is that you can wear them so many ways and still look trendy and chic.
A cropped sweater runs the gamut from super short to just below the waist as you’ll see here.
The Cropped Cardigan
Here are just a few ways to wear them:
with high-waist pants or jeans
- with a pleated skirt
- over a boyfriend shirt (tails hanging down)
- with shorts
- over a dress–especially a maxi
You can even wear them for work and look polished and professional with a soft or crisp blouse underneath.
Since I’ve started blogging, I’ve really branched out in terms of trying and wearing new things in new ways. And it’s lots of fun!
All of the pieces I’m showing you today are very inexpensive, so it’s an easy way to try a new sweater in a new way!
Cropped Cardigan with Wide Leg Jeans
Mauve is such a pretty color but can be challenging to work with. While it would look lovely with a white cami or blouse or even a tee, I love the contrast created with this fuchsia cami in a gauze fabric. I like this cami so much, I’ve picked it up in three colors!
Wide-leg pants are still trending strong, so if you picked up a pair in the last couple of years, pull them out!
A long floral scarf in shades of pink and lilac with green made a nice belt. I love the femininity a scarf creates in any outfit. Try one of yours as a belt!
Style a Cropped Cardigan Over a Blouse
To illustrate a cute and casual style, I wore this burgundy-ish cardigan over a long white boyfriend shirt.
Since we already like a boyfriend shirt over skinny jeans or leggings, the sweater adds some warmth and texture for a super cute fall look.
Medium-dark jeans with a raw hem kept the look casual, but you could easily wear this blouse and sweater combination over black or blue trousers or even a pencil skirt for a professional look.
The Cropped Sweater
OK, this one checks all the boxes. It’s cropped, marled, and has balloon sleeves!
I love the lilac shades in this sweater and though it will look great with any color jeans or navy trousers, it looks amazing with dark wash ankle jeans like these.
This adorable cropped crewneck sweater comes in lots of colors–including a really pretty white–and is under $30–a very affordable price point. It’s very well made and will keep you warm and cozy when things cool down in the coming weeks.
I had to laugh when I noticed that all of these sweaters are in the pink and red families! I guess I was in the mood for a fresh color for fall! It turns out to be a great way to mix and match the pieces for lots of different looks.
If you haven’t yet tried–or retried–cropped sweaters, now is the time to give it a try! You might be surprised at the many ways you can style them with pieces already in your wardrobe.
