It’s almost summer, so it is definitely a wedding time of year! How many weddings have you attended this season? I’ll bet at least one. And while we all want to look fabulous, we don’t always want to spend a fortune, right? I found the perfect answer for you: a knit maxi dress that you can style for evening or a casual event and still look great.
We are headed to a wedding on the beach in Santa Barbara in the next few weeks. Of course, I want to look stylish, but it can’t be too over the top. And it also has to carry over into the reception that evening so I had to find something that would work for both. This dress is spot on!
The knit maxi dress for evening affairs
I wrote about this amazing buy in a post this spring (see it here). At that time, there were several colors, and you can still get one for yourself in black or navy as well as a black-and-white tropical print. At under $40, the price is just right!
I don’t know about you, but I like things simple. That is just a better look for me. More slimming, and–hopefully–makes me look taller! Lol! This type of dress is just my style. The fabric is soft and flattering and SO easy to accessorize. As we all know, it really is all about the accessories. I had a colleague at work who was saving up to purchase a home and was really watching her budget. She wore simple tops and pants and added a great necklace and earrings–she had several–and looked super! The jewelry truly transformed her outfits. Just as it does here:
This abalone jewelry is so unique and pretty! It was a gift from my guys for Mother’s Day. The shell in all the pieces shows lots of colors, and I especially like the green cast against the gold of the jewelry. Matching jewelry pieces, very much like matching bags and shoes–is making a comeback for fall, so watch for that trend!
Platform wedges with black suede added a bit of height and the cork bottoms helped summerize the outfit. A casual woven clutch added to the summery look yet still had a dressier look.
One final note is in regards to the BRA: always a challenge with off-shoulder and spaghetti straps, right? A fellow blogger shared her strapless bra of choice and it is the best one I’ve found. Pricey? Yes. But totally worth it, cause when you need one, you need one that fits, is comfortable and stays in place. This strapless bra does all three.
The maxi dress for casual affairs
To illustrate the versatility of this knit maxi dress, I am styling it a second way for a casual event. the spaghetti straps and knit fabric showcase a casual look easily.
Add a fun striped beach bag, like this black-and-white one with some slip-on sandals and a Fedora, and you are beach party ready! Or picnic, or backyard party or whatever casual event you are attending.
