For a quick, easy way to flatter your figure, play with proportion. A long top over Ponte leggings is simple to style, and even better, it’s a great look for every day.
Long over lean is a styling mantra that we are all familiar with. While we all want to wear something that is flattering, it’s really about wearing what makes us feel amazing. And what’s a great way to feel stylish AND comfortable? Start with Ponte leggings.
Pairing a longline top with a skinny pant creates the ultimate slimming effect, because it conceals the largest parts of the body, skimming over the tummy, hips, and thighs. This is something almost all of us want to do, right?
How to style this look? Start with Ponte leggings.
The Ponte Leggings Look
Ponte Leggings
While you can also put together a long over lean look with skinny jeans, I’ve found leggings is a great way to go. If you haven’t tried Ponte leggings, I suggest you do so. Why? Because of the unique properties of this soft knit fabric.
Ponte knit is a combination of rayon, polyester, and spandex. It’s a thick, double-knit fabric with a two-way stretch that molds to your body shape while providing a smooth and streamlined silhouette. Additionally, this knit feels great on your skin! After a machine wash and dry, they come back feeling good as new.
Until I mastered the long over lean style, I was honestly leery of leggings. After all, wearing pants that hug and define my lumps and bumps is NOT something I’m shooting for! How about you?
When I found these amazing Ponte leggings, however, I changed my mind. This pair is a bestseller from Lou and Grey, a company that specializes in soft, comfy clothing. And hey, aren’t we all into that right now with our largely live-at-home lifestyle?
The Tops
Once you have the leggings in place in your wardrobe, it’s super easy to style them. Any oversize or tunic top will do the trick.
I’m sharing two tops that all work well for this look, yet both create a different feel.

The first look is one I can wear right now. Our early fall weather is typically pretty warm, so this lightweight cotton top works well. I picked up this oversized shirt at my hair salon and boutique, Salon Zinnia. I’ve mentioned before what a dangerous place chock full of temptations this shop is with all the cute finds in the boutique. I can’t resist picking up something on my monthly hair appointments! Lol! Do you have a spot like that whose clothing you just can’t resist?
The brushed twill shirt is something I’ll probably get lots of use out of this winter. It’s a piece from Amazon’s Goodthreads, one of their better clothing lines. I went with the black and blue plaid, but have my eye on the same button-front top in chambray blue! The price-point is $30 so it’s very affordable.
A super easy top option to wear with Ponte leggings is an oversized white top. I am loving this one at Talbots with a high-low hem–just right in the front with a longer back to cover the rear. This white tunic is for you Chico’s fans!
When you’re looking to wear something comfy and cute, remember the long-and-lean tip: style Ponte leggings with your favorite tunic top!
Long over lean is always a good idea and I too love ponte leggings. The best ones I have found are from White House Black Market. Both of those blouses and beautiful, elegant and classy pieces. Love them. =)

leggings are so cozy! I love styling them in the autumn, but I definitely find myself wearing jeans more than leggings if I’m going out. Thanks to COVID I feel like I’m living in leggings a lot of the time LOL
Yes, I know exactly what you mean! I find myself wearing them more and more with our more stay-at-home lifestyle. I prefer jeans for going out, too. Thanks, Tianne, for weighing in on the topic!

Both of these outfits are so great, Darlene! I go through phases with leggings of any sort. I haven’t really worn them much in a year or two, but recently I have been enjoying the comfort of leggings with a tunic or long sweater. Especially on the days when I am just hanging around the house. You can still look so put together in a cute leggings look. Well done, my friend! Thanks for linking with me.

They really are perfect for hanging around the house, aren’t they? But some are more comfortable than others. I don’t like them too constricting! Lol! Thanks so much, Shelbee. Enjoy your Halloween prep with your boys!

The Ponte leggings are something that I pick when I work from home and don’t want to be in my pajamas. They are so comfortable. You look wonderful in the leggings. I like it better with the white top.

Long over lean is a great way to look stylish while comfy when relaxing or working at home! The blue plaid really suits you.
You are so right! Since I am Zooming so much, I can sure get away with wearing leggings! Lol! Thanks, Gail.

Those leggings are so cute on you! I love the ways you’ve worn them too!
Thanks, Laura. These are the most comfortable ones I’ve found! Have a great week.
