Beachwear cover-ups are definitely a summer essential. Our summer wardrobes just wouldn’t be complete without a couple of cute swimsuits and coverups!
There are SO many types of beachwear cover-ups and so many ways to style them.
Today I’m sharing my five favorites.
Cover Up Hooded Sweater
Most of my cover-ups are in lighter fabrics for warm times, so are worn mostly for modesty or to walk from the pool to a hotel room or ship’s cabin. But what about those times you need something a bit heavier to warm you up as the day cools into the evening? Enter the hooded sweater cover-up.
This top is not overly heavy and is so soft. It’s available in a blue or black stripe pattern.
This is my first foray into Fit Flop sandals. I’m a bit fan of flip-flops and these are super nice with a slight platform in rubber and a leather upper. They are perfect for summer around the pool!
A hat is definitely a necessity when the sun is hot. This cutie has a slightly Western feel with a wide brim that provides plenty of cover for the face and hair.
For a cooler evening, style it with capris or white jeggings!

Sarong Cover Up
This chiffon sarong is another addition to my cover-up collection. While I was tempted to buy the white, that of course goes with everything, I just couldn’t resist this navy chiffon! Perfect with my blue-and-white halter swimsuit!
The crinkled chiffon fabric makes it easy to tie and style a number of ways. It comes in LOTS of colors!
There is little difference between a sarong and a pareo. Apparently, the names have different backgrounds but are used interchangeably. More about that in another post!
This adorable “dog-tag” necklace is on sale for less than $20! I love mine and wear it all the time.

Caftan Cover Up
A caftan style is great for lounging around the pool or even for a casual dinner party al fresco. There are many versions of this white and lace caftan and I’ve linked one below.
This pineapple tropical print dress does double-duty worn over a swimsuit or on its own as a casual dress. The simple shift style is easy to dress up!
I’m so excited to pack this in my suitcase for our upcoming trip to Hawaii! It’s slightly stretchy cotton in a lighter-weight fabric that will be perfect for a tropical climate. After spending the day in the water, I can just throw this on, put on a hat, (which will be much-needed after swimming! Lol!), and add some sandals to go to lunch or a casual dinner.
I couldn’t help but pick up this beautiful hot pink embroidered version of the cover-up dress! These dresses are perfect for packing in your suitcase for any summer trip that lies ahead!
The length is a bit long as I didn’t order the petite, but it’s cotton so it will shrink a bit.
Tropical Duster Cover Up
What is it about a tropical print that just calls to us? It must be the vision of ocean breezes, warm sunshine, and rolling waves. Whatever it might be, we all love them, right? This duster can be styled in so many ways, it’s a no-brainer in your closet. I’ve worn it with white jeans, over my swimsuit, and over a bodycon dress. There are lots of possibilities.
