Do you have a go-to swimsuit style that always works for you? Several years ago, I found the brand that I rely on and they have become my favorite swim separates.
My go-to company? Lands End. While they may not be sexy, they are a tried and true brand with excellent customer service and a satisfaction guarantee. Think Nordstrom.
Because we spend a lot of time in the pool come summer, as well as the beach, I typically buy new separates or add new pieces to an existing set every spring. And with travel on the horizon–Yipee!–a new swimsuit is a must-have, kind of like a new dress for a wedding.
For some of you, swimsuits have always been available in separates, that hasn’t always been the case. When I was a skinny 13-year old–a LONG time ago!–it was so frustrating to buy a bikini that just didn’t fit. And I really wanted to look super cool! I remember vividly my olive bikini with yellow polka-dots (yes, my version of the itsy-bitsy teenie-weenie yellow polka dot bikini a la the Beach Boys song!). I had to stitch seams into the top to make my not-so-developed top fit!! Lol!
On the flip side, my already developed girlfriend could not find a suit that would fit her larger top and smaller bottom. So once swimsuit designers wised up and created mix and match separates, we were in heaven!
Can any of you ladies relate?
So, today I’m sharing my favorite swim separates selected this season. Or, to put it another way, my 2021 Swimsuit Edition! (Sort of.) Lol!
My Favorite Swim Separates
My absolute go-to for a swimsuit is a black two-piece with a high retro waist. I thought my days of wearing a two-piece were over, but the higher waist style really “tucks it all in,'” if you know what I mean.
While this black suit is my basic suit, I also add suits with some color each year. Typically I go for blues and coral-colored swimsuits. However, this year I just couldn’t resist this adorable yellow pineapple print, so I went all in!
Here you can see the super easy-fitting swim cover-up dress. I have this dress in a black polka-dot and a blue paisley. They are not only great as cover-ups, but I style them all the time as casual dresses. I take them on vacations, especially cruises, where they do double-duty in my suitcase.
Don’t you just love this print? And of course, it’s yellow! My favorite!
As I said, I went all-in this year and bought several pieces. Next are the board/swim shorts. I bought a pair of these last summer and love to wear them for morning walks or hanging out by the pool. (See them below as my photo didn’t turn out!)
Next is the bandeau swim top. Of course, the beauty of this style is that you can get some sun and color on your shoulders without the tan lines. Here, I’m showing it with the detachable straps. This will be great this summer with the popularity of off-shoulder tops and dresses returning.
The green banding on the sides and top add a little bit of a slimming line. While I do have solid yellow swim bottoms, I’m showing you the board/swim skort here. Another great piece for running around town with a little color and style!
By just tying a front knot in a white shirt, you have an outfit ready for anything. Go straight from the pool to a casual lunch or dinner!
Here are all the pieces for the Pineapple Bliss Hibiscus Floral swim separates. Many of the pieces come in other colors and patterns, too.
I hope you enjoyed my annual swimsuit edition! These pieces from Lands End are truly my favorite swim separates. Give them a look–I think you’ll find they work for you, too.
