We often think of gingham as a very traditional pattern, right? Well, gingham is hot right now and you can find it in all kinds of wardrobe pieces. I recently styled a gingham midi skirt (here), and last summer I styled a gingham bell-sleeve top (here). You can find gingham in everything from block heel mules (click here) to strapless swimsuits (here). All are cute and all are trending. Today, I am styling a piece from the past–the button-down gingham top–that is no longer so traditional.
The button-down gingham top
When this top came in my last Stitch Fix, I thought, “Uh, so-so.” When I picked it up and felt the thin, soft fabric, I thought, “Hmm, this might just work for Spring.” And when I put it on the fit was so good and the fabric felt so good I knew it was a keeper. Despite its traditional features, button-down collar, long button cuff sleeves and button front, it is still a trendy top to wear. The indigo color gives it a different look, too. And of course, it all depends on how you style it and what you style it with.
Ankle strap sandals (Same style; though silver is no longer available, they come in several colors!)
To keep the look current, I styled the top with my white distressed jeans. Silver block heel sandals from last year are still trending and gave the outfit a little bling. The best thing about these sandals is that they add a little height without being too high, and the block heel is very stable. So you can wear these a long time without being uncomfortable in your shoes.
Rolling up the sleeves a bit and leaving it untucked give the look a little sass, and that dresses up any outfit, right?

I added a silver cuff bracelet and some large teardrop earrings. You may have noticed that bigger, flashier earrings are hot this spring! They appear to be big next fall as well. These are an inexpensive pair by Halogen. You can make any outfit look current by adding large earrings and a bracelet or necklace.
I bet if you look hard enough in your own closet, you will find something in gingham. If you haven’t yet, add a little gingham to your next outfit and add some fun pieces to make it pop. Here are some super cute gingham styles to take a look at:
Before I go, here is a photo of the Pacific at sunset. It’s so pretty, I just had to share. Enjoy!
Thanks for coming by to check out another look for Spring. I hope this simple outfit inspired you to give gingham another try!
