Hi, everyone, Well, we are over the hump (as in Wednesday) for the week, and sliding into Thursday.Yesterday’s post showed how to style a striped pencil skirt for work. Today I will show you another way to style a striped skirt using pattern mixing.
How to incorporate Pattern Mixing
To mix patterns, you look for a least one commonality, such as color. Since the skirt has stripes in off-white, brown, gray and black, I looked through my closet to see what other items might have those colors. I was going for a more casual look as I planned to style it with my leather jacket and OTK boots, so I kept the colors basic.
I love the slightly edgy look of OTK boots and a leather moto jacket. It just says fun!

The top I choose has a print with brown and black on a cream background. Along with pattern mixing, it can be interesting to mix up the style as well. For example, this top is more feminine as it is sleeveless with ruffles and creates contrast with the edginess of the other pieces.
The same thing is true of the leopard clutch: it uses the same colors but in a slightly different pattern. The colors make it work with the other pieces. I love the versatility of this inexpensive bag!
The OTK boots have been really fun to style! And I am especially fond of these by Sam Edelman as the block heel is just the right height for me. This style is sold out but here is a similar pair with the same block heel. I’m so excited that I can actually get my foot into them without much trouble! Who’d have imagined that my darn tendon would take so long to heal? It’s a lengthy process, and cute shoes are still a challenge for me to wear for long periods of time. So just getting them on is a huge success!
This is a pretty safe way to experiment with pattern mixing so give it a try! I would love to hear what you come up with! Just comment at the end of this post.
Thanks for stopping by today! Check back in tomorrow to see another look with this striped pencil skirt. A weekend-ready outfit!
