From all accounts, it looks like pink is once again big this spring. And pink looks absolutely amazing with jeans. To illustrate, I’m styling a pink denim jacket and modern bootcut jeans outfit.
Pink is certainly a color everyone can wear; each of us just has to find the right shade. You may recall that people often paint bedrooms and bathrooms in pink shades because it’s known to soften your features and set off your skin tone. In fact, pink was Mamie Eisenhower’s favorite color and she started the trend in the 1950’s!
Why Pink and Blue?
Ever wondered where the thinking that pink is for girls and blue is for boys came from? Yup. Mamie Eisenhower. She wore a pink ball gown to Ike’s inauguration and the White House was so full of pink furnishings people called it “The Pink Palace.” As is often the case, or at least has been so far, women in the country began to style themselves after the first lady and all the girls wore pink.
OK, that was your history lesson for today! Onward with today’s outfit!
The Outfit
The Jeans and Tee
This is another super casual outfit styled around jeans and a white tee. The tee is an inexpensive vintage-style split neck tee that’s perfect for every day.
The jeans are my latest acquisition as I explore various styles of jeans. These are the Modern Bootcut from Loft. This means they are still fitted through the knee and then taper to a flight flare. They are NOT the bootcut style some of us wore years ago. These have lots of stretch and are slightly frayed on the bottom. The top sits right at the waistline, which is a great cover for “muffin top.”
It’s said that the bootcut style balances your shape. I’m still debating if this is a good shape for me. They do come in petite, so that part is great. I asked my husband and son if they made my butt look big. My husband has learned to just grunt at that question, but when my son said, “That’s just how it is,” I was taken aback. Does that mean that’s just how my butt is, I asked him? He said no, that’s how women are trying to look right now on purpose. Well, that got him off the hook (he’ll learn when he gets a woman in HIS life, right?!) as he explained that he knows women who are getting their behinds enhanced or wearing butt pads or whatever.
I say whatever a lady needs to do to feel good is OK, but I personally would like a smaller derriere! Lol!
In any case, I love the light indigo wash color of these jeans.
The Pink Denim Jacket
Are you on the hunt for something different in a denim jacket? I’ve been looking for one in pink, knowing that pink looks so great with so many pieces in my closet. When I saw this one on the Loft site, I ordered it right away.
The color, called “soft lotus,” actually tends a tiny bit toward lilac. It’s very much a soft “washed” color which makes it look well-worn, a look I like in a denim jacket. So maybe not as pink as you might want, but I really like the fit and the stretch, so I think it’s a keeper.
The White Mules and Navy Bag
This inexpensive satchel has become my go-to handbag! The navy color goes with everything and it holds all my stuff. It can also be worn as a shoulder bag.
Finally, the white mules. I’ve been wearing them since last year at this time and love the look of white heels with denim. If you’re hesitating at styling white booties, a mule is a great alternative. Of course, white sneakers would also be a great look.
I’ll be styling my version of white ankle boots in the near future, so stay tuned for that!
Hahaha, you shouldn t ask that to a man! No your button doesn’t t look big because it just isn t! In fact ,I like that jeans slot!
Hey, Nancy, I know, right? When will I ever learn? Haha! I’m not used to the bootcut shape where the top of the pant is fitted and below the knee is not. Something new to get used to–again!
Have a great week, my friend!
