We all know it’s accessories that make the look. Sometimes, the bolder, the better. Just by adding red accessories, you can really make an otherwise boring outfit pop.
You may recall my pink and red combination in honor of Valentine’s Day. The sweater and jeans looked very pretty by themselves, but the red shoes and bag changed everything. It’s a popular color combo that we often overlook outside of February.
Red pieces like this are fabulous pieces to have in your wardrobe. You might be surprised at how many outfits to style them with.
Today I’m showing two seldom-used color combinations that will make you think twice about the many ways to add red accessories.
Olive Dress with Red Accessories
A basic shift dress like this is a perfect piece to transition from winter to spring. And with spring coming up on March 20th, it’s time to start thinking about your spring wardrobe. Not that Mother Nature won’t “spring” some surprises on us despite the March date, of course.
Olive is basically a neutral, meaning you can wear it with almost anything. Have you tried it with red? This color provides a lovely backdrop for lots of colors, including red.
While this dress is basically a tee-shirt dress, there are unlimited ways to style it. You can style it with our without a belt. It looks as good with heels under a blazer as it does with sneakers, which is how I wore it recently for a lunch date outing–outside, of course, and socially distant!
I can easily see it for late spring or early summer with sandals, a cute hat, and a straw bag with the sleeves pushed up.

Red with Orchid
I constantly read and research new trends to share here on the blog. It’s always fun to see what’s new and upcoming, though admittedly this year has been a bit more subtle in the fashion department. Fashion writers are predicting that we will all “splash out” with color and more dressed-up looks as we emerge from the pandemic. Sounds good to me! How about you?
While researching new trends, I came across an article on a topic something like “Color Combos That Always Look Rich.” Most were well-known to me, but this one–red with orchid (or lilac) was new to me. So, naturally, I decided to give it a try and now I love it!
I picked up this orchid tunic sweater last summer during the Nordstrom Sale. I’ve worn it a few times with jeans and leopard mules, but never loved it. I think these accessories, however, really jazz it up!
White pants, in my opinion, look great year-round. These are an older pair from Chico’s, so they are good quality and have lasted a long time.
Once again, I added the red slingback pumps and red shoulder bag. But something was missing. Ada, of Elegance and Mommyhood, recently styled lilac pants with coral shades and it looked great, so I tried this old necklace with coral and pink shades. And, well, it works, don’t you think?

| Red Slingback Pumps (on sale, lots of colors)
Bottom line: pull out your red accessories and try combining them with something new in your closet for a new, fresh look!
Amazing how versatile the red accessories are, lifting so many looks! I love red with olive but hadn’t thought about red with orchid. Thanks for sharing at #WowOnWednesday.
It’s a new one for me, too! I read it somewhere and thought, hey, why not? And I love it! Try it with some of those pretty brights in your wardrobe, Gail. It would look great!

Darlene, this is such a great post! I love the way you have incorporated red into so many different color combinations. That olive dress is amazing! I really do like olive and red together. It is the one way you can style and red and green (my two favorite colors to wear) together without looking like a Christmas ad! The orchid and red combination is really wonderful, too. I never would have thought to pair those colors together, but the result is really rich and happy! And I just clicked on the link to the olive dress and realized that I just purchased the black and gray ones at Old Navy. They were both on clearance for $7 each but I didn’t see the olive! Probably because it is amazing and either sold out or isn’t on clearance. Thanks for linking with me!
