Good morning, everyone!
Remember when we used to organize our closets by season? This was especially true in colder climates and is still useful to some degree, but today’s wardrobe pieces are much more versatile if we learn how to layer pieces and restyle them. One perfect example of that is a sleeveless dress from summer.
Today I am taking a chambray summer dress–this is one from my earlier Stitch Fix–and changing it up for Fall.
To add interest, I am styling this outfit with a mixed-material striped bag from Sole Society. (And it is currently on sale!) The bag has a bit more room due to the expandable accordion sides, and I need a bit more room than some of the cross-body styles allow. They have lots of trendy, quality pieces in faux leather and fabrics at affordable prices.
This dress has been a great investment as I have worn it on vacation with flat sandals, out to dinner with a shawl, and here with a blazer. I can see me wearing it with tights and tall boots and my leather jacket–oh, yeah! Maybe even with a light turtleneck underneath.
Blazers are big as well this season. (Although I’m not sure they have ever been “out!”) I picked up this lightweight blazer in both black and white a few years ago and use them a lot. You can never go wrong with a good quality blazer, especially in black, blue or white. With a dress, it often looks better with a shorter version like this one, but try yours and see how it looks!
Black booties with cutouts (similar)
Black booties look so good with a denim or chambray fabric, don’t you think? These are a medium-heel which I prefer.
You can see just how easy it is to mix and match your wardrobe pieces and layer them together to create new looks. It really stretches your wardrobe and you can do a lot with a few pieces. Go through your closet, pull out a summer dress and find some pieces that you can layer it with. You might be surprised at how easy it is to do!

Hi! Darlene, I enjoyed your post on restyling a summer dress. I like your idea, styling the outfits with a open front Blazer. Thanks for sharing this blog with us.
